This expansion includes water and wastewater treatment plants, pipelines, and reservoirs but also extensive technological and digital upgrades and innovative ways to use water and wastewater. These complex programs require exceptional people to help ensure the successful delivery of these high-profile programs. The role involves providing timely and high-quality commercially focussed legal advice to Sydney Water, primarily supporting construction major projects with tendering, negotiation, contract drafting and management of related disputes. The position will advocate for Sydney Water to drive the best results for customers, communities, and the environment and to implement programs and initiatives with the customer and community in mind. Responsibilities: Assist the Head of Legal and Company Secretariat in providing timely and high-quality legal advice to Sydney Water in all areas of law affecting Sydney Water’s business and operations with a focus on supporting major projects. Draft, negotiate and advise on all types of documentation, including contracts and transactional documents related to major projects, and procurement matters generally including other agreements to protect the interests of Sydney Water. Advise on early intervention and dispute resolution strategies in potentially complex, sensitive and litigious construction related matters to minimise risk to Sydney Water and maximise outcomes of any dispute, action or liability. Develop and manage strong working relationships within Sydney Water and with external legal providers to facilitate the efficient and effective delivery of legal services to Sydney Water. Ensure critical legal and corporate knowledge is captured, shared, and developed across the Legal unit and conveyed appropriately to relevant business units. Experience and Qualifications: 4-6 years’ post admission experience as a lawyer with sound contract law expertise. Proven research and analytical capacity related to complex matters, sound problem solving skills and the ability to make balanced and logical judgements. Demonstrated expertise and experience in contract drafting and negotiating. Proven expertise in dispute resolution, including mediation and litigation strategies. Essential Requirements: Tertiary qualifications in law, with unrestricted practising certificate (or eligibility to hold an unrestricted, practicing certificate) Please note as part of the application process, you will be asked to undergo background checks which includes a criminal history check.
