At McCain, the global legal team is responsible for providing and managing legal and compliance services and assisting with the management of risks associated with McCain’s global business operations. On account of a maternity cover the legal team is seeking a senior commercial lawyer for a fixed term 12-month contract. As a key member of the legal team in the Asia Pacific South Africa region. Located in the region’s head office in Melbourne, the Senior Legal Counsel will report to the General Counsel, Asia Pacific South Africa and be part of a team of supportive and high-performing lawyers working collaboratively across the region. The Senior Legal Counsel will work directly with the business on day-to-day advice on legal matters focused on Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. This is is an exciting opportunity for a senior commercial lawyer to help shape and support the future direction, development, and growth plans for this unique global brand. There may be some local travel involved in the role. In this role the Senior Legal Counsel will work closely with the business to provide commercial and transactional but also some regulatory and governance advice on key operational objectives and enterprise projects. In addition, the Senior Legal Counsel will also manage one direct report. Key responsibilities: Lead the negotiation and drafting of customer, supplier and other third-party agreements. Advise and support stakeholders across various business functions as necessary with respect to a variety of legal matters, including food safety, employment, health and safety and dispute resolution. Participate in the development of corporate policies, procedures and training programs and deliver training in respect of key compliance topics relevant to the business. Provide high quality, practical and timely advice to the business on compliance with local laws and regulations that affect the business and its strategic objectives. Ensure effective risk management processes are implemented and maintained. Engage and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders. This position will suit a lawyer with broad corporate/commercial and previous in-house experience and a minimum of 10 years’ Post Qualification Experience. This is a full-time fixed term position.
