About Aboriginal History WA Aboriginal History WA (AHWA) manages access to restricted government records created by previous agencies responsible for Aboriginal affairs in Western Australia. Using these records, the Aboriginal History Research Services team within AHWA undertakes expert archival and genealogical research to assist Aboriginal applicants seeking historical family information. AHWA also uses specialist research skills for strategic truth telling projects, providing an in-depth understanding of the Aboriginal history of Western Australia and contributing to the shared healing and reconciliation journey. About the role Are you passionate about family history? This is your opportunity to support WA Aboriginal families access family history information through the provision of research and genealogical services and to use your skills to assist Aboriginal people reconnect with their family history. We are seeking a motivated, experienced and customer service focused person to fill the position of Research and Administration Officer. We have one full time (75 hrs p/f) permanent position available. Whilst this role is full time, the Department may consider part time and job share arrangements for the right candidate(s). As a Research and Administration Officer, you will: Undertake research of genealogical, archival and historical material, including the creation of genealogical charts. Provide a culturally appropriate, customer focused service, including face-to-face, oral and written communications. Participate in the research, planning, coordination and implementation of special projects designed to educate and promote Aboriginal history in Western Australia and contribute to the collation and analysis of information to support the development and delivery of special projects. Assist with the delivery of collection management plans, including the digitised collections. Contribute to the organisation and ongoing management of the historical collections.
