Our expertise, combined with Geosyntec’s world-class reputation in hydrogeology, geochemistry, geotechnical engineering, seismicity and risk allows us to assist our client in meeting their engineering challenges and better understanding their risk. We have an opportunity available for a Tailings Engineer to join our office in Melbourne . This position is well-suited for a talented, experienced individual who is interested in contributing to and managing innovative and challenging projects including several projects where we are current the designated Engineer or Record. This role focuses on support our client’s tailings and mine waste management and operational teams to ensure their facilities are safe. Compliance to the latest standards (which are evolving) is critical for mining companies to demonstrate their commitment to ESG and for the Social License to Operate. This role forms part of our team to provide the technical and operation support for Tailings Storage Facilities (TSFs) and Water Storage Facilities (WSF). As a Senior Tailings Engineer, this role requires the application of the tasks listed below (geotechnical engineer), but also an expanding knowledge of all elements and disciplines required to design these facilities, such as hydrogeology, process, geochemistry, water, civil engineering and social engagement. Some of the key responsibilities may include: Civil/Geotechnical/Tailings dam design; Geotechnical analyses using various software packages; Understanding of tailing deposition modelling (Muk3D) Geotechnical and environmental site characterisation; Development and management of instrumentation monitoring systems; Some Project/task management and proposal preparation support; Preparation of engineering reports, design calculations, drawings, technical specifications; Bachelor's degree in civil or geotechnical engineering or a related field. (required) Advanced degree in civil or geotechnical engineering or a related field. (preferred) Professional registration (preferred but not essential) At least 5 years of directly relevant experience in a consulting environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required) Knowledge of relevant geotechnical engineering software. (required) Knowledge of numerical modeling tools. (preferred) Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed. (required) Excellent writing and communication skills. (required) Field work and overnight travel may be required. Valid Australian driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel.
