Professional development opportunities with a defined personalised annual budget Access to flexible working arrangements, which include working from home arrangements You will work in a tight-knit, supportive team to ensure you succeed in your role Job Description YOUR ROLE You’ll be responsible for providing legal advice and support on a diverse range of civil litigation matters involving MACS and may also provide support to MACS across a diverse range of areas including day-to-day issues that arise in schools, drafting and reviewing of contracts, discrimination, dispute resolution, insurance, planning and property matters. WHAT YOU WILL DO Negotiate and manage a diverse range of complex or highly sensitive civil litigation matters, including but not limited to, historical abuse claims, personal injury claims, debt recovery, human rights (e.g.discrimination) and building and construction litigation matters. Liaise with external legal service providers and insurers to manage MACS litigation. Provide timely and rigorous legal advice within MACS to schools and management, on a range of issues including those arising in day-to-day school operations such as duty of care obligations. Preparing high-level briefings and reports to the office of the Executive Director, Committees and Board. Provide guidance and advice within MACS on new and proposed amendments to state and federal laws relevant to MACS. Desired Skills and Experience ABOUT YOU Bachelor of Laws and hold a current practising certificate (unrestricted). Detailed understanding of legal and statutory requirements and issues relevant to schooling in Victoria, and preferably canonical law. Demonstrated experience advising and managing litigation claims in private practice or an in-house role. Sound knowledge of the Civil Procedure Act 2010, Supreme Court (General Civil Procedure) Rules 2015 and County Court Civil Procedure Rules 2018. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the capacity to communicate effectively with a diverse range of people, including internal and external stakeholders on complex and sensitive legal matters. Must hold or be willing to acquire a Working with Children check and National Police certificate/undergo a criminal records check.
