Position Information Chester Hill High School (CHHS) is a comprehensive, co–educational secondary school situated in southwestern Sydney and is part of the Auburn Schools Educational Network. The school encompasses an Intensive English Centre. Chester Hill High School has a current student enrolment of 1195, 970 mainstream and 225 within the Intensive English Centre. The school is culturally diverse with 93% of students possessing a language background other than English. A well-established Intensive English Centre (IEC) is located onsite as part of the school with a majority of the students coming from refugee backgrounds, including migrant students and international students. The IEC is committed to the provision of a safe and nurturing environment in which students develop English language skills to transition successfully into mainstream high school. The IEC vision is underpinned by high expectations of staff and students including a strong connection to parents, community, and partner organisation. This position will support all teaching and learning programs and welfare support structures operating at Chester Hill Intensive English Centre. All students are encouraged to achieve in an environment that provides academic challenge and artistic, cultural and sporting opportunities. Strong parental and community partnerships are a feature of the school. Selection Criteria Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria, 1. High level understanding of the complex needs of students from refugee and migrant backgrounds including international students; and the leadership skills required to nurture a learning environment where students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. 2. Demonstrated instructional leadership to lead a large team of teaching and non-teaching staff to design educational and wellbeing programs that successfully address the needs of newly arrived students. 3. Demonstrated ability to contribute to an executive team and operate at a whole school level to effectively implement the vision for the school as articulated in the strategic improvement plan, with specific priorities relevant to the Intensive English Centre. 4. Ability to manage the operational needs of a large faculty, including the related human resource and fiscal management, autonomous enrolment processes and liaison with external stakeholders, DE International and Multicultural Education Team. 5. Experience or capacity to establish effective partnerships with colleagues, parents, and the broader community to engage newly arrived students so that they develop language skills to successfully transition to mainstream high school. General Selection Criteria 1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice 2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs 3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams 4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents 5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning 6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy Conditions An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement.
