Head Teacher Special Education - Bungendore High School — Mangerton, Wollongong Area

Position Information Proudly located in the Queanbeyan Network of Schools, Bungendore High School opened for the first time in 2023 for Years 7 and 8 on a temporary site while the permanent location is being built. The school will grow by one year group each year until we have our full complement of Year 7 to 12. In 2024, we have Years 7, 8 and 9. Located 40 kms from Canberra in a rapidly growing rural area, it is a short distance from Canberra International airport and a short drive to the South Coast or Snowy Mountains. Bungendore High School will have modern facilities with 24 flexible learning spaces, including three supported learning classes, accommodating more than 450 students from Years 7 to 12. Situated in close proximity to the primary school, the school will provide an inclusive, responsive and supportive environment that allows each individual to develop to their potential. The school is conscious of its role within the local community and in the society in which it operates, working closely with other community agencies to support student academic, emotional and social development. Innovative facilities across the campus will provide opportunities to work with community to enhance the curriculum for students through the provision of extracurricular activities. The school builds teacher capacity to promote and develop agreed values, positive behaviours and success in all students. Selection Criteria Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria, Approval to teach Special Education and/or experience and expertise teaching students with complex needs, including students with autism, intellectual disabilities, physical disabilities, challenging behaviours and mental health concerns. Demonstrated capacity to model core values, communicate and utilise interpersonal skills to work effectively with all stakeholders in developing a Special Education Faculty that meets student needs and parent/carer expectations. Demonstrated capacity to lead teachers in the development and implementation of flexible and innovative learning programs, that enhance student engagement and support the wellbeing of students within a special education setting. Demonstrated enthusiastic, proactive leadership with the ability to work as a dynamic member of the school executive team in leading initiatives that address whole school strategic directions and to manage whole school change through collaborative leadership. General Selection Criteria 1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice 2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs 3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams 4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents 5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning 6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy Conditions An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement.
