In that exciting environment, the Guided, Space, and Hypersonic group is spearheading the development, industrialization, and production of technologies that are critical Australia's sovereign missile systems capability We are looking for a System Safety Engineer to join our High-Speed Weapons team based at our Melbourne World Trade Centre office on Wurundjeri land. As a System Safety Engineer, you'll apply your knowledge, skills and experience to support development of safe high speed and guided weapons systems with a focus on propulsion sub-systems and warhead integration. This position is an ideal opportunity for an individual who has demonstrated experience in system safety engineering or a background in system engineering or Chemical design engineering working on safety critical systems. The role offers the chance to advance your safety expertise with plenty of growth opportunities. Your role purpose will be: Implement the system safety framework across our high speed and guided weapons projects. Develop and maintain system safety artefacts such as hazard logs, hazard analysis reports, risk assessments and safety case reports. Conduct hazard analysis using a variety of hazard analysis techniques (i.e. FMEA) and provide system safety input to the design teams to me safety in design requirements. Develop and maintainer safety requirements and conduct and/or witness safety related verification activities to progressively assure systems are functional, fit for purpose, safe, and reliable prior to delivery. Support System Safety Working Groups (SSWGs) and lead integrated workshops to identify risks and controls in areas such as Systems Safety, RAM, Human Factors, and more. Collaborate with process safety teams based at Mulwala and Benalla to establish safe processes for rocket motor system development and production. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, customers, partners, and subcontractors to drive system safety considerations across the product lifecycle to ensure technical solutions. On day one in this role, we'll expect you to bring the following skills, experience and behaviours: Accredited Engineering degree that meets Engineers Australia membership requirements in the areas of chemical engineering, aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering or a related field. Demonstrated experience in system safety engineering, risk and reliability on safety critical systems/ complex engineering systems. Experience implementing a system safety frameworks, using a range of hazard analysis and risk assessment techniques and developing safety artefacts to support formal systems engineering reviews and product release. Familiarity with reducing safety hazards and risks so far as "reasonably practicable" (SFARP), Risk matrices, Hazard Analysis and Hazard Controls Hierarchy and with relevant safety standards e.g. SAFETYMAN - Defence Safety Manual (SafetyMan), MIL-STD-882E, Land Materiel Safety Manual (LMSM) and Work Health and Safety (WHS) Acts etc. Familiarity with rapid prototype development, low TRL systems. Excellent communication skills and strong organizational abilities A ability to influence stakeholders at all levels Defence or Defence industry experience highly desirable. Eligibility criteria for obtaining Australian Defence Clearances must be met.
