Opportunity for a high performing lawyer with 4 - 6 years PQE to join Ventia's award winning in house legal team as Legal Counsel. This role supports an exciting breadth of projects providing services to major clients in defence, health, education, local, state and federal governments. Key responsibilities: Reviewing a variety of legal documentation Supporting the bid team with contract reviews and negotiations Drafting special conditions for successful projects, including for subcontracts, consultancy agreements and supply agreements Negotiating consultancy and supplier agreements Identifying legal-commercial risks Contract delivery advice including claims and management of external counsel Keeping the business updated on legislation and other regulatory changes Experience and skills required: Australian citizen holding a current Australian practising certificate 4 - 6 years PQE with commercial law experience gained in a reputable law firm or in-house Proven experience in contract drafting and negotiation with a high attention to detail Excellent communication skills as well as the ability to work autonomously and contribute as part of a team Previous exposure and/or interest in the Defence industry would be well regarded What will your typical day look like? You may start the day reviewing a client contract in a request for tender and provide advice to the business on legal and commercial risks. Attend an internal meeting to review and respond to a subpoena for the production of documents and manage the response to it. Supervising legal research conducted by one of our fabulous law clerks. Advising upon and reviewing documents proposed to be produced in response to a WHS notice. Providing advice on proposed contract changes by one of our subcontractors. Working with senior internal or external lawyers in preparing a written advice on the prospects of success on a claim or pursuing a contract variation. You may end the day joining an internal call to progress one of several team initiatives including increasing the use of legal technology, innovation or sustainability.
