The Role – Senior Database Applications Engineer As a Senior Database Applications Engineer reporting to the Application Services Manager, you will enhance and optimise the database and data capabilities across the Medical, Dental, and Corporate Business Units within ForHealth Group. Your technical expertise will be pivotal in managing integrations between various SaaS applications and our cloud-native Azure platforms, building and maintaining robust data architectures, delivering actionable analytics, contributing to data governance, and ensuring seamless data flow across systems. Additionally, you will implement automation to streamline database management tasks and processes between our medical applications, provide leadership and mentorship to team members, drive strategic initiatives, and lead complex projects to advance our data management practices and infrastructure, ensuring high system availability and optimal performance. Key Responsibilities: Database Management and Optimisation: Monitor, tune, and optimise database performance while maintaining security protocols and data integrity. Test and maintain backup and recovery plans to ensure business continuity of the medical applications which underpin our business. Data Architecture and Integration: Design and implement scalable database schemas and storage solutions, overseeing data migration and integration with Azure platforms, and ensure seamless data flow across systems while maintaining data consistency and accuracy. Clinical and Practice Management Systems: Manage multiple, nationwide on-premises medical databases supporting industry-leading frontline clinical and practice management system for patient records and appointment-based booking. Automation and Process Improvement: Implement automation scripts to streamline database management tasks and processes between applications, and develop and maintain tools for automated monitoring, reporting, and troubleshooting. Analytics and Data Governance: Implement automation scripts for streamlined database management, medical application processes, and manage releases of change into the production environment to ensure controlled and efficient deployments while minimising risks and disruptions. Performance Monitoring and Troubleshooting: Utilise performance monitoring tools to proactively detect and resolve issues, and develop, optimise, and troubleshoot complex SQL queries and stored procedures. Leadership and Collaboration: Provide leadership and mentorship while fostering professional growth, and collaborate with architects, developers, system administrators, business stakeholders, and vendors on various projects, both internally and with external business units. Documentation and Compliance: Maintain comprehensive documentation, processes, and procedures, and ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, audits and best practices. About You Degree qualified or equivalent industry experience. 5 years’ experience working as a DBA or similar utilising an advanced MS-SQL skillset Sybase experience desirable. Previous experience working in an L2/L3 team environment investigating and resolving technical issues. Demonstratable, systematic, methodical problem-solving capability. Escalating issues to vendors and managing them to completion. Managing complex integrations and configurations between applications. Experience in business process and IT operational automation. Experience with Azure data platforms and cloud-based technologies (5yrs preferred) Experience with developing and maintaining Microsoft Power Platform solutions (5yrs preferred) Experience and knowledge of medical applications, particularly Medical Director / Pracsoft and Best Practice, will be highly regarded. Experience desired with Microsoft D365, Salesforce, or ServiceNow. Experience in Databricks and MongoDB will be regarded. Working knowledge of data lakes, delta lakes, and data warehouses. Understanding and applying the ITIL framework. Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with all levels of the business. Ability to work after hours. Ability to travel.
