About the School: Narbethong is a small, unique school which provides specialist teaching for students with vision impairment. We are located in Woolloongabba, Brisbane. Narbethong caters for students from birth with our Early Childhood Development Programs. Students from Prep to Year 12 in our school-age programs are also diagnosed with an intellectual impairment. They may require adjustments for autism and/or hearing and physical impairments. About the Role: Position 1: As the Administration Officer (Braille) - Vision Impairment Statewide Services, you will have responsibility for the following: Translate curriculum resources into braille using Duxbury translation software. Understand and maintain a high level of specialised knowledge of Unified English Braille (UEB) literary code, as well as additional technical braille codes for mathematics, science, foreign languages, music and ICT notation. Proof read and edit braille translated materials and files. Produce resources in alternative formats including large print, audio, digital and tactile, and convert print diagrams, graphs and maps into tactile diagrams using graphic programs for production. Proof read and edit large print translated materials and files. Produce tactile kits for early learners taking direction from the Alternative Format Library Teacher and develop an understanding of tactile discrimination and how to represent concepts tactilely in a meaningful way for learners with vision impairment. Using specialised software and hardware including Duxbury, Microsoft and Adobe programs, Braille embossers, printers, scanners, and the Picture In A Flash (PIAF) machine, for production of learning materials. Understand and comply with licencing agreements and copyright laws for publishers/borrowers. Perform general library duties including utilising the Oliver Library software to catalogue all materials produced, processing requests and returns, barcoding, organising mail and maintaining equipment and materials. Liaise with outside agencies, publishers and schools, and provide support to school personnel regarding the production of alternative formal learning materials. Work as part of a team demonstrating effective organisational and interpersonal skills with the capacity to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines. Position 2: As the Administration Officer (Braille Music) - Vision Impairment Statewide Services, in addition to the Position 1 responsibilities listed above, you will have: Ability to read print music including vocal, keyboard and orchestral scores. Understanding of music theory equivalent to AMEB Grade 5 standard. Knowledge of how music scores are used in a variety of settings and the ability to apply this knowledge to the braille music transcription process. Demonstrated knowledge in the use of braille music transcription software. Experience in transcribing printed scores into braille music. Interested?
