Permanent, full-time role focusing on Privacy/Administrative Law Sydney CBD head office location with a hybrid/flexible working model Community-focussed organisation, positive work culture & competitive salary About the Role This Principal Lawyer position is responsible for identifying and resolving complex legal matters, primarily focusing on privacy/administrative law. The incumbent will provide expert advice and opinion to the Board, Chief Executive and other icare Clients, as well as develop effective partnerships with icare service lines to ensure legal services meet business needs, in the context of icare's organisational transformation and innovation. Analyse and provide advice including sound approach to statutory interpretation on complex legal matters relating to privacy complaints, data protection/sharing, reviews, eligible data breaches, remediation and projects to meet business requirements. Facilitate client engagement, consultation and negotiation on significant legal issues and ensure that fit for purpose, consistent and defensible advice is provided to the business. Select, instruct, and oversee law firms, retained to provide advice and conduct litigation on specialist areas of the law to ensure they comply with service level agreement requirements and add significant value to in-house legal resources. Identify emerging issues/risks and their implications and propose solutions/develop legal strategy in partnership with icare businesses and outsourced providers in the context of organisational goals. Provide advice in response to Privacy and GIPA complaints including representation in NCAT and ensure legislative requirements are met. Skills & Experience Admission as a legal practitioner to the Supreme Court of NSW, holding a current practising certificate. Significant experience and excellent technical knowledge in administrative law. Broad range of experience in a senior legal role in a leading firm, government department or large organisation. Sound understanding of the legislative and operational frameworks applying to icare, ideal. Strong client engagement skills, ability to work independently and to achieve successful organisational outcomes.
