The service offers free breast screening to all women over 40 years in the ACT. The program has a target age group of women between 50 and 74 years. BreastScreen ACT provides screening at three sites located in the Canberra city, Phillip and Belconnen Health Centres. All assessments are carried out at the Canberra city clinic. The BreastScreen ACT Clinical Director / Designated Radiologist is responsible for the provision of professional and strategic clinical leadership to BreastScreen ACT and to oversee the provision of high-quality breast cancer screen screening and assessment services relating to radiology in accordance with the BreastScreen Australia National Accreditation Standards (NAS). This role will drive evidence based innovative clinical practice and service development as well as implementing quality improvement strategies and monitoring processes. The role will develop territory wide policies and procedures to ensure consistency of practice and standardisation of service delivery and resolution of any clinical issues. This requires the Clinical Director / Designated Radiologist to work closely with the Designated Radiographer and Program Director. Close liaison with the Designated Pathologist, Designated Surgeon and Medical Physicist is also required. Please note, this is a temporary position available as fixed term or Visiting Medical Officer. Duties: Under limited direction of the Director, BreastScreen ACT you will perform the Clinical Director / Designated Radiologist role. You will: Provide professional clinical leadership to radiologists, readers and the multidisciplinary clinical workforce to ensure the provision of safe, contemporary practice which is cost effective for the service and its users. Provide expert clinical advice on breast imaging and intervention, population based screening and other service-related topics whilst being the spokesperson for BSACT. Contribute to BreastScreen ACT strategic and operational planning, developing KPIs for measuring performance and Program integration to achieve identified targets and standards from participation to diagnosis of breast cancer. Collaborate on BSA national program initiatives, advising on BSACT position. While providing clinical expertise on emerging technologies in BreastScreen including education, implementation guidance and support to the clinical workforce within BSACT. Undertake quarterly assessment of radiologists' performance in screening and assessment and provide feedback of this assessment to individual radiologists: Analysis of the Service and the individual Radiologist's recall rates, cancer detection rates, missed cancer detection rates and interval cancers. Assessment performance, such as pre-operative diagnosis of breast cancers and adequacy of percutaneous biopsies, will also be included. The individualised identification information is confidential. Ensuring regular radiology / pathology / surgery review of biopsies is undertaken through Clinical Correlation meetings. Provide direct supervision and encourage of radiologists to participate in continuing education and training programs including Orientating. Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.
