Permanent role; based in Australia Competitive market salary and benefits package reflecting qualifications and experience The Role This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced commercial Legal Counsel to join the ERM Legal Group. This new role will provide legal, contracts and governance support to ERM's operations in the APAC region helping ERM's Legal Group to achieve its overall mission of reducing ERM's risk profile, improving decision-making and enhancing client relations. The role will cover a wide range of legal and compliance issues, covering countries located across APAC. This is a fast paced, commercially focused and highly collaborative environment, working with ERM business units, clients, service providers and external legal counsel in over 40 country locations. You will act as a trusted legal adviser to colleagues throughout the business units at various levels of seniority. You will report to the Regional Managing Counsel for APAC, based in Perth, Australia. The role will ideally be located accessible to Perth (where most of the APAC legal team is currently based) although we may consider other locations aligned with ERM's business needs and in similar time zones to Perth. Responsibilities: With your expertise and knowledge, you will provide legal support and advice to the ERM business in various countries located in the APAC region, including: assisting the legal team to achieve its contributions towards reducing ERM's risk profile, improving decision-making and enhancing client relations providing prompt and efficient advice and drafting in respect of a broad range of agreements, including professional services contracts, framework agreements, subcontracts, reliance letters, confidentiality agreements and secondment agreements supporting compliance with ERM corporate governance and compliance policies and procedures risk management guidance and advice to the business create and improve awareness of the legal requirements and risks for drafting proposals and contracts providing support on litigation matters providing support on the integration of newly acquired businesses supporting the other members of the APAC Legal Team on special projects managing external counsel in various APAC jurisdictions providing practical, hands-on legal advice to business partners on a broad range of commercial, legal, regulatory and compliance risks supporting other business enablement functions This role includes a significant component of contract reviews, drafting and advice. It would be ideal for an experienced commercial contracts lawyer looking to join a multi-national commercial in-house team in a business-facing role, providing end-to-end service with a wide variety of work and responsibilities. Within a busy team and mutually supportive environment, you will enjoy high value work across the business. What you'll need: to be qualified as an Australian lawyer with at least 3 years relevant post-qualification legal experience, ideally some in-house experience with an international company, and a current legal practice certificate a well-developed understanding of commercial, contract and risk management issues including the compliance and regulatory aspects relevant to an international company and global business ability to work in cross-functional and international teams be proactive and take the lead when necessary be able to work collaboratively as part of a team, but also able to work independently and with initiative maintain a creative and pragmatic approach to problem-solving be professional, calm under pressure, well-organised, proactive, able to grasp concepts quickly and meet challenging deadlines present information, legal guidance and advice clearly and concisely, with content and style appropriate for the audience (whether one-to-one or in a group) excellent verbal and written communication skills (and any languages in addition to English would be an advantage), with a high level of attention to detail conduct training sessions and provide legal guidance to internal stakeholders and promote awareness of legal risks and best practices a willingness to build relationships of mutual trust with APAC senior management and partners This job is a good fit for you if: you are an excellent communicator with proven technical and organisational skills, with the ability to be open and candid whilst demonstrating respect for others and cultivating a culture of inclusion and trust you are accustomed to working under pressure to meet challenging deadlines and be able to thrive in a fast-paced, complex and rapidly changing environment, adapting to different business needs (operational, transactional and structural) in the context of a large global group you have an eye for detail and are meticulous in your work, but are also willing to work as part of a team engaging with and supporting colleagues to create well-considered and pragmatic, risk-based approaches to problems and enhanced team contribution you display sound, thoughtful business judgement and thinking, with a balanced commitment to process and continuous improvement and a demonstrated ability to earn the confidence of senior executives as a trusted advisor you have the ability to build strong and lasting relationships with internal clients, offer pragmatic and sensible advice and show a genuine commitment to their business needs you are dedicated and enthusiastic, have the ability to work efficiently with a commitment to good outcomes for ERM and a willingness to get involved wherever there is a need.
