As the Regulatory/Legal Advisor (Energy Markets), you will play a critical role in navigating the legal and regulatory landscape of the energy markets. Your expertise will ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, mitigate legal risks, and influence policy development. This role requires a deep understanding of legal and regulatory frameworks, as well as a strategic mindset to guide the company through complex legal and regulatory challenges. Key Responsibilities: Develop and Implement Legal and Regulatory Strategies: Formulate strategies to align with legal and regulatory requirements. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate legal strategies into business operations. Develop long-term legal and regulatory plans supporting business growth. Monitor and Interpret Legal and Regulatory Changes: Continuously track changes in energy regulations and laws. Analyse the impact of regulatory changes on business operations. Keep the organisation informed about upcoming legal changes. Advise on Compliance and Legal Matters: Provide expert advice on regulatory compliance and legal issues. Ensure all business activities adhere to relevant laws and regulations. Develop and implement compliance programmes and procedures. Liaise with Regulatory Bodies and Legal Authorities: Establish and maintain relationships with regulatory agencies and legal authorities. Participate in regulatory and legal meetings, consultations, and hearings. Submit company positions and feedback on proposed legal and regulatory changes. Conduct Legal and Regulatory Risk Assessments: Identify potential legal and regulatory risks. Develop mitigation strategies to address these risks. Conduct scenario analysis and impact assessments for legal risks. Prepare and Submit Legal and Regulatory Reports: Oversee the preparation and submission of legal and regulatory reports. Ensure accuracy and timeliness of all legal filings. Maintain records of all legal and regulatory submissions and correspondence. Represent Company in Legal and Regulatory Forums: Act as the company’s representative in industry forums and legal discussions. Advocate for favourable legal and regulatory policies. Engage with industry groups to stay abreast of legal and regulatory trends. Analyse Legal and Regulatory Developments: Conduct in-depth analyses of legal and regulatory developments. Develop strategic recommendations based on legal analysis. Prepare detailed reports on legal and regulatory impacts. Coordinate Legal and Regulatory Audits and Inspections: Manage legal and regulatory audits and inspections. Ensure all necessary documentation and processes are in place. Develop action plans to address audit findings. Develop Legal and Regulatory Training Programmes: Create training programmes on legal compliance and best practices. Develop training materials and resources. Monitor the effectiveness of training programmes and update as needed. Support Policy Advocacy and Legal Initiatives: Collaborate with stakeholders on policy advocacy and legal reform initiatives. Develop advocacy strategies to influence legal policies. Draft position papers, policy briefs, and advocacy documents. Provide Strategic Legal Advice to Management: Offer strategic legal advice to senior management. Participate in strategic planning sessions with regulatory insights. Prepare briefings and reports on legal issues for executive leadership. Manage Legal and Regulatory Documentation: Ensure accurate maintenance of all legal documentation. Implement document management systems for legal records. Regularly review and update legal documentation. Collaborate on Legal and Regulatory Matters: Work with legal, compliance, and operational teams on legal issues. Coordinate efforts to address complex legal challenges. Provide legal input on project teams and working groups. Lead Legal and Regulatory Projects: Lead and manage legal projects and initiatives. Develop project plans, timelines, and deliverables. Monitor project progress and adjust plans as necessary. Qualifications and Person Description: Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Law, Business, Economics, or a related field. A Master’s degree or further qualifications in regulatory affairs or energy policy is advantageous. Experience: Extensive experience in regulatory affairs or legal advisory, preferably within the energy sector. Proven track record of developing and implementing legal strategies and managing compliance programmes. Skills and Competencies: In-depth knowledge of energy regulations and laws. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Strategic thinking with high-level advice and insights.
