As an APS 6 Range Systems Engineer you will be part of a small team of specialists to assist the Air Force Test Ranges Squadron (AFTR SQN) deliver range engineering outputs such as the: Development, review and approval of weapon danger area and safety trace templates Manipulation of geospatial information and map overlay Risk assessment using statistical methods Safety Case & Risk Decision Brief development Flight Termination System (FTS) Certification & concept development Telemetry (TM) system operation and support Radio Frequency Safety Officer duties Link Margin Calculations Trial Planning / Coordination Dealing with Range Safety Policy Visiting Air Force ranges to support trials About our Team Air Force Test Ranges Squadron (AFTRSQN) provides a safe, secure and controlled Instrumented 'Advanced Training and Test Environment' (ATTE) in support of whole-of-Government directed activities, testing of war material and Raise Train Sustain activities to support Force Generation for the Australian Defence Force, our allies and foreign partners. The team works directly with Range Users and other stakeholders to develop and execute the test environment, including planning, execution and oversight to ensure efficient use of resources to provide a level of range support and instrumentation that best meets customer expectations, integrity of the test environment and compliance with relevant policy. AFTRSQN is located at RAAF Base Edinburgh, South Australia and offers access to flexible working conditions to support work life balance and an attractive remuneration package including a generous superannuation contribution of 15.4%. Our Ideal Candidate Our ideal candidate is able to: Become proficient at operating Telemetry and communication equipment. Perform complex engineering activities and tasks under limited direction. Be accountable for exercising assigned engineering authorities and any Technical Regulatory Authority delegations. Research, apply and contribute to the development of technical engineering reports, briefs, presentations and documentation for review. Apply technical engineering knowledge and experience, understand priorities to research and define issues and implement corrective actions. Build and sustain positive relationships with team members and actively participate in team work and group activities. Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders via reports, written correspondence, calculations, discussions and presentations. Assess technical and design packages including scoping, planning, reviewing and provide recommendations for consideration. Analyse delivered materiel to ensure it meets legislative, policy and regulatory frameworks and provide recommendations for consideration. Ensure safety aspects of Defence materiel systems are considered and incorporated into engineering activities and tasks.
