Design Manager - Water Facilities — The Rocks, Sydney

Our Water Division is experiencing significant growth, presenting the opportunity for a Design Manager - Water Facilities based in our Sydney office who will have a strong focus on the delivery of Facilities Projects, including reservoirs, pump stations and minor treatment assets. This position is crucial for providing technical expertise during project delivery and leading technical teams to develop and deliver the most appropriate technical solution for key water and wastewater projects. About the role: The Design Manager is accountable for leading the Project Technical Team to develop and deliver the most appropriate technical solution. This role will work closely with the Project Technical Leads for the delivery, efficiency and quality of all technical outputs. The Project/Design Manager will coordinate all multi‐disciplinary activities and inputs by the technical team, including specialist inputs, to ensure an integrated technical solution. The Design Manager personally contributes to the technical delivery of the outputs. The Design Manager is most often a discipline lead, a task lead on large projects, or as a check or review resource of progressive and final deliverables. Essential Functions: Considered an internal subject matter expert who applies advanced practical and theoretical knowledge Exercises independent judgment, initiative and in-depth evaluation of various factors for addressing and resolving unusual and complex issues or situations. Decisions made and errors in judgement/inaccuracies in work are generally confined within business centre, major project/client work, or Functional Service Team function Assignments/projects are complex in nature and require the application of specialized knowledge Experience managing multi-disciplinary teams in a professional services or project delivery environment, able to work within a matrix structure. Experienced in delivering projects to the required quality standards using remote teams. Ensure all technical outputs conform to the project scope, are safe and are of appropriate quality (confirmed by independent review). Responsible for delivering outputs on time and in accordance with the allocated budgets and ensuring they are endorsed by the client. Working inclusively with the Client and key stakeholders during the development of technical solutions, and present technical outcomes at the end of the project. Technical Planning activities, including confirming the technical delivery methodology; identifying and coordinating all technical resource needs; undertaking forward planning and tracking progress of all technical activities. Technical Delivery activities, including implementing sound and efficiency methodology for technical delivery; leading the planning and production of all technical deliverables; implementing an efficient and effective checking and review process; ensuring safety, innovation and sustainability are properly addressed in the technical outputs; minimise re-work by assisting the Project Manager with identifying and effectively handling scope creep and variations; capture Intellectual Property and sharing technical knowledge. Provide weekly monitoring and reporting on budget, schedule, resources, and scope, and proposed corrective action to remedy situation requiring attention. Communicate and coordinate all quality reviews, schedules, status, and modifications with Stantec Design Quality teams and Discipline reviewers. Communicate to Discipline reviewers the location, schedule, job number, cost code(s), response period, etc., for each submittal review. Notify required discipline/quality leads immediately of any changes to design and subsequent review schedules. Coordinate with Quality/Discipline Leads to estimate project QA/QC budgets and schedule. Identify and mentor technical staff. Contribute to proposal and bid development to support business development activities, including preparing proposal material as required and budget for client business cases Complete all work in line with Stantec Core Values and in accordance with the Stantec Quality, Safety & Environment Systems and Project Quality Procedures. Minimise and control risk by commitment to the Stantec Quality, Health & Safety programmes and ensuring proactive use of our project management systems. Qualifications To be successful for this role you'll present: Tertiary qualification in relevant engineering field Chartered Engineer or working towards 8 years' experience in an engineering consultancy Leadership abilities including managing subcontractors and multidisciplinary teams. Knowledge of water and wastewater services and the delivery environment. Highly developed problem solving and negotiation skills to resolve disputes that arise. Strong understanding of D&C or alternative delivery projects. Solid report writing with the ability to tell a compelling story. Proficient in Project Management Tools, MS Project, Power BI Previous experience working with Sydney Water is desirable So, what do we offer to enable your next career step?
