As the Legal Counsel for Wholesale Energy Markets, you will play a pivotal role in providing comprehensive legal support to navigate the complexities of wholesale energy markets. Your expertise will ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and effective management of legal risks. Collaborating closely with internal teams, you will drive strategic decision-making and contribute to the company's success in a dynamic and evolving industry. Key Responsibilities: Provide expert legal advice and support on a wide range of matters pertaining to wholesale energy markets, including trading agreements, regulatory compliance, and dispute resolution. Review, draft, and negotiate complex contracts, agreements, and transactions related to energy trading and market operations. Conduct thorough legal research and analysis to stay abreast of regulatory developments, industry trends, and legal precedents affecting wholesale energy markets. Assess and mitigate legal risks associated with energy market activities, including market manipulation, regulatory enforcement actions, and contractual disputes. Develop and implement robust compliance programmes and policies to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and industry best practices. Represent the company in legal proceedings, arbitration, and negotiations with regulatory authorities, counterparties, and external counsel. Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including trading, risk management, and finance teams, to align legal strategies with business objectives and risk appetite. Provide strategic guidance and training to internal teams on legal matters, compliance requirements, and risk management strategies. Participate in industry forums, working groups, and regulatory consultations to advocate for the company's interests and influence regulatory developments. Support corporate governance initiatives, including board meetings, governance reviews, and compliance audits, to uphold corporate integrity and transparency. Qualifications Required: Bachelor's degree in Law from a recognised institution. Admission to practice as a solicitor with a current practicing certificate. Minimum of 5 years of post-admission experience in commercial law, with a focus on energy law and regulatory compliance. In-depth knowledge of energy market regulations, industry codes, and market design principles. Proven experience in contract drafting, negotiation, and dispute resolution within the energy sector. Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate complex legal concepts clearly and concisely. Person Requirements: Detail-oriented with exceptional analytical skills and a meticulous approach to legal research and analysis. Proactive and solutions-oriented, with the ability to anticipate legal risks and develop pragmatic solutions to complex legal issues. Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines. Collaborative team player with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive working relationships across all levels of the organisation.
