Legal Advisor - Corporate Counsel — Melbourne, Melbourne Region

The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency ( Ahpra ) works in partnership with 15 National Boards to implement the national regulatory scheme for health professionals. The purpose of health practitioner regulation is to protect the public by ensuring that only health practitioners who have the skills, qualifications and knowledge to provide safe care are registered. About your role Reporting to the Senior Legal Advisor, the Legal Advisor provides commercial law, privacy law and administrative law advice to key stakeholders across the organisation, including but not limited to staff, Board and Committee members, and other relevant regulatory bodies for the purpose of ensuring the National Law is applied and administered in an effective and efficient manner in line with organisational policies and procedures. The role also acts as counsel in relation to litigation conducted by the various Boards and Ahpra. This role is a full time, ongoing role based in our Melbourne office (preferred). Some of your responsibilities will include: Provide legal advice and recommendations to address and resolve complex issues in respect of commercial, contract, procurement, privacy and public interest disclosure matters, facilities and leasing, intellectual property rights and protection, delegations and authorisations, and records management. Provide legal advice and operates in accordance with legislation, regulations and codes of practice relevant to the National Law. Supporting Ahpra and the National Boards to manage legal, policy and procedural issues, particularly in relation to the administration of the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law Act 2009 as enacted in each State and Territory; Monitoring corporate governance and legislative compliance obligations and identifying opportunities for improvement. As the ideal candidate, you will have: Degree in law – LLB, admitted as a solicitor in an Australian State or Territory; Current unrestricted practising certificate issued by an Australia State or Territory authority; Proven post-qualification experience within a corporate/commercial department of a top/mid-tier law firm or in-house (government or private sector); Sound commercial knowledge and experience; Excellent stakeholder management skills; and Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships across a large organisation.
