About the Opportunity As an Engineering Cadet, you will be embarking on a structured journey to qualify as an Engineer Watchkeeper. Serco will provide sea-time experience required as part of your formal education to become qualified as an Engineer Watchkeeper. Under the guidance of the ASRV Chief Engineer, First Engineer and/or Master. You will: Work as part of the ship's crew Complete Training Record Book Understudy the duties and responsibilities of the ASRV Engineer officer of the watch, Third and Second Engineers, including: assisting with the taking of bunkers, transferring fuel and pumping bilges and sludge; conduct and understand the engine room ratings duties and responsibilities; keeping engine room watches and undertaking watch keeping duties in accordance with applicable rules and regulations; and the upkeep of the Engine Room Log Book and other engine room records. Carry out maintenance work and perform duties in the engine room and around the vessel as instructed by the Chief Engineer/First Engineer Comply with the Safety Management System, and applicable Serco procedures and safe work practices Promote work practices, training and inductions that conform with the work health and safety, and environmental requirements of Serco’s environmental and quality and management systems Perform statutory duties as defined in emergency muster lists Attend safety committee meetings whenever possible. About you - your ideal skills & experience The highest levels of personal integrity and ethical behaviour Must be enrolled in an approved course of study from an approved seafarer training organisation as per STCW code section A-III/1 Right to work in Australia and on an Australia flagged vessel Certificate of Safety Training AMSA Certificate of medical fitness Polar Medical – organised if successful Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC) Preferred but not essential Advanced fire fighting Proficiency in survival craft and rescue boats other than fast rescue boats Medical first aid Please Note: We are not sponsoring college time. Only providing sea time.
