The key duties of the position include Our team Digital Earth Australia is a program that creates free and open satellite data products for the benefit of Australia. It's our mission to embed satellite imagery and data into decisions that support a sustainable Australian environment, a resilient society and a strong economy. The Digital Earth Australia team is fuelled by diversity and deep expertise. We are a team of Earth observation and data scientists, system engineers, developers, and geospatial analysts. We share our work through open access code repositories and scientific journals and have a strong track record of well-cited publications in the Earth observation domain. The Services and Support Section within DEA manages the ongoing operations and maintenance of all production products and services for the Branch. We are additionally accountable for the Data and Digital services and strategy of the Branch, in alignment with corporate ICT practices. The role As a Data and Systems Engineer for DEA, you will work closely with our software and product development teams to ensure that our upstream satellite imagery is downloaded, processed, and delivered to the appropriate systems. In this role you will utilise strong analytical skills and debugging techniques, alongside critical analysis to troubleshoot and resolve system-based issues through structured programming. You will also perform root causes analysis of problems and action Change and Problem requests. In this role you will: Maintain and develop a number of high-volume data downloading pipelines using web APIs. Maintain communication with upstream international data providers regarding their service and data upgrades and failures. Operational maintenance and monitoring of a number of data processing pipelines, and contribute to the identification and implementation of systems improvement initiatives. Maintain and develop as needed satellite imagery downloads (from external providers to our on premise and cloud data storage environments). Indexing of imagery into our on-premise database and maintaining the codebase that triggers data processing Occasionally archiving faulty imagery to be reprocessed and run the scripts that launch ARD processing scripts. Liaise with external upstream data providers regarding operational support, risks, and break fix. To be successful in the role you will: Anticipate and respond to stakeholder needs and expectations. Required skills, knowledge, experience and/or qualifications 3 years of experience on roles that rely on the use of Python, Linux (especially bash scripting), Web APIs, RDBMS (Postgres) Strong understanding of data engineering principle Experience with GitOps (git CI/CD) An understanding of geospatial concepts (maybe GDAL and associated Python ecosystem) Experience with Cloud engineering (AWS, terraform, kubernetes) Familiarity with YAML, image processing concepts, numpy-based scientific Python stack Are you unsure about applying?
