At Cowal Our Cowal Gold Operation (CGO) is a cornerstone asset located near West Wyalong in central NSW with a leadership team that continually focus on embedding a values driven culture aligned with our company vision to create a premier, global gold company. Cowal has recently begun underground stoping and approvals for an extension to the existing open pits are currently underway, which extends the mine life well into the next decade. This is an exciting operation where a future leader can influence the direction of the Geotechnical department and ultimately the operation. However, we are open to 8:6, 4:3 About the Role Reporting to the Integrated Planning Manager, the Superintendent - Geotechnical Engineering provides leadership and management for both the Open Pit and Underground Geotechnical teams. The purpose of the role is to support the Open Pit and Underground through their leadership and technical knowledge of geotechnical engineering. The successful candidate will be empowered to establish best practice geotechnical systems to ensure the safe and optimal extraction of our existing and future operations. Key responsibilities in this role include: Overseeing team performance, behaviours, continuity, and succession, mentoring, and geotechnical support. Collaborating with internal stakeholders for timely geotechnical evaluation and design to ensure safe operations Contributing to department budgeting, driving continuous improvement, and demonstrating alignment with Evolution Values. Managing Geotechnical teams for both Open Pit and Underground, ensuring critical control maintenance, statutory compliance, and proactive risk management. Facilitating the exchange of geotechnical insights for safe operations, through clear communication with key stakeholders, including Operational Managers. Establishing and revising geotechnical standards, procedures, and risk mitigation plans. Taking a hands on approach, conducting meaningful safety interactions, while embodying a positive safety attitude and setting a precedent. Proactively identifying and addressing hazards, leading the team in recognizing at-risk activities and involving specialized expertise for requisite controls, encompassing safety, environmental, and operational considerations Championing Evolution Mining's Values and commitment to Safety, Environment, Inclusion and Diversity, and Emissions Reduction (Net Zero) About you To succeed in this role, you will be an experienced Geotechnical Engineer, skilled in working with people, relating, and networking along with having an ability to persuade and influence whilst adhering to our principles and values. Ideally you will have experience in leadership of large Open Pit and Underground environments with a track record in delivering results and meeting customer expectations. You will have a high level of adaptability and responsiveness to change, thriving in a dynamic work environment. You will be able to demonstrate strong written and oral communication skills, with experience in compliance reporting, and have excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship building skills, both with external and internal stakeholders, and across all levels of the business.To be successful in this role you must be proactive and have a willingness to work through challenging situations calmly and systematically. Tertiary qualification in mining geotechnical engineering or related discipline Post graduate degree in Geomechanics an advantage. Previous open pit and / or underground experience. Risk management experience. Team leadership and management experience. Leadership and interpersonal skills; collaboration and stakeholder engagement Identifying, understanding and solving complex problems. Communicating information - verbal, written, numerical and graphical. Establishment and adherence of work standards. Managing and developing subordinate Engineers.
