ABOUT THE BRANCH & SECTION The Government Services Branch (GSB) delivers Whole-of-Government services to Commonwealth agencies, including developing and supporting the secure telecommunications and digital collaboration needs of the Australian Government. The branch is responsible for providing and managing: The Parliamentary Document Management System (PDMS), delivering services to support the management of parliamentary workflow across government. Including the development and support for PDMS. GovTEAMS, a comprehensive whole-of-government collaboration service for the Australian Public Service The Intra-government Communications Network (ICON), an optical fibre network that links Commonwealth offices throughout Canberra. GovLINK, a secure inter-agency communication service that encrypts all nominated traffic, classified up to the PROTECTED level, between agency internet gateways. The PWS Section is responsible for the PDMS which provides a transformational service delivery arrangement to connect Australian Government agencies and Parliament. The PDMS is a single, shared technology solution residing on shared infrastructure that delivers improved agency efficiency for parliamentary and executive correspondence across Whole-of-Government. PDMS provides a common approach for managing these documents and processes including document creation, drafting, and clearance for parliamentary documents such as question time briefings, letters from Ministers to the public, submissions, and briefings from Departments to Ministers as well as Departmental executive correspondence, etc. across the Australian Public Service. In operation since 2013 the PDMS supports over 70 federal government agencies with over 35,000 users and an average of 579,000 records in PDMS each year. The system provides an integrated document tracking solution, including management of document drafting, approvals and referrals to other agencies, maintenance of historical records, and search and reporting capabilities. The key duties of the position include THE OPPORTUNITY Reporting to the Assistant Director or Product Manager/Owner, the User Experience/User Interface (UX/UI) Designer will work as part of a multidisciplinary agile team delivering the Whole of Government (WofG) Parliamentary Document Management System (PDMS). You will work with system users to identify and document the problems that need to be resolved including broad understanding of the relative value of addressing different parts of the problem. You may work alongside business representatives, system users, process participants, Product Managers, Product Owners, Business Analysts, Technical and Solution Designers, Communications and Change Management staff. Responsibilities of the UX/UI will include: Conduct user research and evaluate user feedback to continuously iterate and improve designs. Methods may include surveys, interviews, and usability testing to gather insights that inform design decisions. Create wireframes, prototypes, mock-ups, or user flows to effectively communicate interaction and design ideas. Drive usability across PDMS increasing user experience and user interface design capability. Iteratively develop user experiences for mobile and web. Resolve accessibility issues and build web accessibility compliance into the UI framework to enable better user experience accessibility, including for users with disabilities.
