About Us Victorian Managed Insurance Authority (VMIA) is the Victorian Government's insurer and risk adviser, covering the people and projects that help Victorians thrive. We're an agency in the Department of Treasury and Finance portfolio, established under the Victorian Managed Insurance Authority Act, and report to the Assistant Treasurer. We provide insurance and risk advice to government departments and agencies, with more than 4,600 clients, ranging from small community service organisations to public hospitals, schools, and core service providers. We also provide domestic building insurance to builders, giving Victorian homeowners peace of mind for building projects valued over $16,000. Your role As a Claims Portfolio Manager, you are responsible for managing a claims portfolio that delivers client focused recovery solutions that restore confidence and build a more resilient Victoria. You lead a team of claims specialists and claims officers who provide best practice strategic claims management. VMIA claims management is tailored to the public sector and focuses on efficient, fit for purpose recovery solutions for our clients. The Claims Portfolio Manager also plays a key part in educating our clients and building their knowledge of emerging trends and strategies aimed at reducing the level and frequency of claims in order to heighten their risk management capability. Your role reports to the Head of Claims, within the Risk, Insurance and Claims Solutions. What you do You lead and manage a capable team of claims specialists and claim officers that assess and provide rapid response to adverse events applying best-practice public sector claims management to minimise disruption to client operations and expedite recovery. You coach and mentor team members to achieve a high performing team and optimise their effectiveness. You identify and develop team capability, expertise and skills to meet current and emerging, operational and client service needs. You work closely with all claim's portfolio managers in cross skilling your team and providing opportunities for your team members to develop outside of your portfolio speciality building organisational resilience in the process. You support the Head of Claims in developing and maintain a consistent client experience across all our claim portfolios wherever possible. You retain and build your claims expertise by maintaining hands on claims management for a discrete number of claims, including significant and strategic claims for our clients. You apply best practice public sector claims management to minimise disruption to client operations and expedite recovery and ensuring compliance with VMIA claims management processes, practices and delegations. You build and forge strong client relationships to positively influence the resolution of claims and ensure client participation throughout the claim's management process ensuring an appropriate balance between client and VMIA interests and needs at all times. You build and manage effective relationships with key advisors and/or insurance providers to achieve optimum claims resolution. You work with the Insights team to support the analysis of claims data and portfolio trends. You use this intel to present insights to clients to build their capability and influence improved recovery and prevention strategies. You support the Head of Claims, liaising across divisions and with external partners (mainly legal and actuarial) to monitor the impacts of claims settlements on the financial sustainability of your claim's portfolio. You collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to meet the strategic claims management needs of our clients. This may include an interagency claims response, broader advice on claims issues impacting claims sector or state or, a catastrophic event recovery response. Who you work with You work collegially with your peers across the Risk, Insurance and Claims Solutions. division and the broader organisation to design, develop and implement key service delivery programs and initiatives. You communicate and consult regularly with the Insurance, Risk, Insights and Products and Service teams to inform trends, market needs, changes and new opportunities for initiatives. You may provide occasional information and updates directly to the Executive and Board. You may also present at external forums on the matters related to your portfolio, client experience or sector from time to time. This will be with support and direction from your manager. About you You have a proven record in a claim's management role, especially in the handling of the more technically complex matters including litigation, construction risk or catastrophe related property losses. You are a seasoned professional with highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, proven client relationship management experience and the ability to influence stakeholders and negotiate mutually beneficial outcomes. You have knowledge and experience in insurance claims management along with the capacity to analyse and interpret claims information and data sources. You can demonstrate how you have used this intel to identify trends and strategic opportunities for improvement. You demonstrate capability to manage the performance of claims service providers to ensure that agreed service standards and fees are maintained. You demonstrate experience to positively lead a team, influence positive outcomes and drive optimal performance. You clearly demonstrated depth of knowledge and experience in risk and insurance claims management, and the interaction with actuarial and audit procedures. You acquire a comprehensive and expert knowledge of claims management issues, challenges and directions, with broad experience in implementing and reviewing risk and insurance policy, programs and products. You have a detailed understanding of the complexities and nuances of public sector management, with the capacity to operate successfully in such an environment. Qualifications You hold a tertiary qualification in, Insurance, Business, Commerce, Finance, Law or relevant discipline (highly desirable). You may also hold a professional membership with a risk management, Insurance or relevant organisation.
