About the role We are looking for a Corporate Legal Counsel to join Rio Tinto's highly regarded Iron Ore Legal team. This individual will be primarily responsible for delivering high quality and timely legal advice and support on environmental and project regulatory approval and social licence to operate matters in connection with Rio Tinto's Iron Ore business. The role offers huge variety, covering emerging risks, legislative and policy developments, regulatory compliance, governance, and investigations. You will coordinate and engage with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders, communicate and present to senior leaders on environmental and approvals related matters, support internal reporting as well as governance and compliance functions and frameworks, and provide cost effective engagement and management of external counsel where required. The role reports to one of the Iron Ore Legal team's Chief Counsels. What you'll bring To be successful in this role you will bring: Extensive post qualification experience as a lawyer A commitment to the safety of yourself and your colleagues A strong understanding of Commonwealth and State environmental legislative and policy landscapes, approvals processes, and the principles of sustainable development Intellectual, analytical, and creative abilities to quickly identify issues, make judgements, and propose solutions Enthusiasm, resilience, and confidence to drive an effective outcome Strong stakeholder management skills. Regulator engagement with Traditional Owner engagement experience is desirable but not essential Exemplary communication and collaboration skills High level strategic decision-making skills with a demonstrated ability to influence You must hold a current practising certificate.
