The Role: This is an identified role for Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander candidates only. This is an entry-level apprentice position for someone looking to gain experience and training in civil construction work. Under close supervision and guidance, the purpose of this role is to assist the construction team. You will learn to use various techniques to build, maintain & fix various projects. This role may also participate in other projects across the company's projects as part of the training program. Key Responsibilities: Learning and Development: Actively participate in on-the-job training sessions to acquire practical skills in civil construction techniques, equipment operation, and safety procedures. Demonstrate a proactive attitude towards learning, seeking guidance from mentors and supervisors to enhance technical competencies and job proficiency. Attend classroom-based theoretical training sessions to supplement practical learning and gain insights into construction principles, materials, and project management concepts. Project Support: Assist in setting up construction sites, including the assembly of temporary structures, safety barriers, and signage, under the supervision of senior team members. Support the execution of construction tasks such as excavation, grading, concrete pouring, and installation of utilities, following established procedures and safety protocols. Operate basic construction machinery and tools, including but not limited to, excavators, bulldozers, compactors, and power tools, while adhering to manufacturer guidelines and safety regulations. Quality Assurance: Collaborate with experienced personnel to ensure compliance with project specifications, blueprints, and quality standards throughout the construction process. Participate in inspections and quality control activities to identify and address defects, deviations, or safety hazards promptly, contributing to the delivery of high-quality outcomes. Safety and Compliance: Adhere strictly to safety protocols, wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and following safe work practices to mitigate risks and prevent accidents on-site. Maintain awareness of occupational health and safety regulations, environmental policies, and industry best practices, reporting any safety concerns or incidents promptly to supervisors. Team Collaboration: Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment by communicating effectively with team members, sharing knowledge, and offering assistance when needed. Demonstrate reliability, punctuality, and a positive attitude towards assigned tasks, contributing to the overall productivity and morale of the construction team. Ideal Candidate Traits: Enrolled or willing to enroll in a recognized apprenticeship program for civil construction. Basic understanding of construction principles, tools, and equipment. Strong commitment to workplace safety and adherence to regulations. Physical fitness and ability to perform manual labor in various weather conditions. Excellent communication and teamwork skills. Willingness to learn and adapt to evolving job requirements. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to construction sites.
