Electrician — Deakin, South Canberra

The Electrician is responsible for the design, installation, maintenance and repair of the Mint's electrical equipment and machinery. The Electrician consults with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, undertaking planning and procurement related activities to deliver a range of projects. They are responsible for developing, implementing and coordinating life cycle maintenance, and developing innovative cost effective solutions to provide a safe environment for employees, contractors and visitors of the Mint. The Electrician ensures the Mint complies with all statutory requirements relating to building services, including Work Health and Safety legislative requirements. They are responsible for carrying out risk assessments, identifying hazards and reviewing and maintaining electrical safety control measures. The successful applicant is required to work full-time and on-site. The key duties of the position include Developing, implementing and coordinating electrical life cycle maintenance including the design, construction, installation, maintenance and repair of simple and complex electrical equipment. Ensuring organisational compliance with Australian Electrical Standards and maintaining safe working practices in line with professional standards. Using industrial Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) to understand, use, load and develop programs and identify faults. Undertaking risk assessments, and identifying, reviewing and maintaining electrical safety control measures to effectively manage workplace health and safety risks. Consulting on, developing and contributing to a range of projects including electrical upgrades, safety control, and base building projects. Developing effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to confirm business requirements and liaise on the progress of jobs. Monitoring trade related work and managing external contractors. Working with branches across the Mint to prioritise tasks and projects, including machinery repairs, to ensure business continuity. Undertaking procurement activities to source electrical parts, boards and equipment ensuring compliance with the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability (PGPA) Act 2013. Maintaining records and managing assets through Mainpac and the Facilities Helpdesk to ensure jobs and requests are tracked and managed effectively.
