Reports to: Senior Engineer / Engineer Direct Reports: Engineer Responsibilities: Managing, designing, developing, creating and maintaining small-scale through to large-scale construction projects of Friends Civil in a safe, timely, and sustainable manner. Duties: Prepare reports by collecting and studying design, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photographs and tests on soil composition, terrain, hydrological characteristics and related topographical and geologic data. Complete projects by preparing engineering design and documents and confirming specifications Maintain project database by writing computer programs, entering data and completing backups. Create feasibility study by analysing engineering design, conducting environmental impact research and assembling data. Produce engineering documents by developing construction specifications, plans and schedules. Confirm adherence to construction specifications and safety standards by monitoring project progress, inspecting construction site and verifying calculations and placements. Oversee and monitor civil works, demolitions and excavations. Fulfill project requirements by training and guiding operators. Maintain operations by enforcing project and operational policies and procedures. Comply with federal, state and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, anticipating future legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements and advising management on needed actions. Liaise with councils for permits and site inspections. Upon receipt of tender documentation, ensure it is reviewed / assessed for completeness. Calculate quantities of materials utilising drawings, specifications and other relevant material. Ensure all required materials for each project are sourced, priced and sampled if necessary. In conjunction with the Construction Manager, ensure the final preparation and timely submission of lump sum tenders, taking into consideration all construction costs and profit. Where possible, assess any alternative construction technologies / methods that can be incorporated in the tender. Liaise with clients in relation to reviewing any submitted tenders. Monitor and review all contract documentation (invoices, Foreman reports etc) with a view to identifying any variations that may occur. Prepare monthly progress claims, including the pricing and submission of variations to the contract. Determine project costs by calculating labour, material and related costs. Ensure all outstanding debtors are monitored and followed up with a view to achieving timely payments of claims. Ensure all sub-contractors’ invoices are checked for accuracy, authorised and submitted for payment. At the completion of each project, ensure profit/loss of the project is reviewed /assessed against construction activities. Ensure all transport costs are allocated / proportioned to projects on a monthly basis Carry out safety inspections and prepare safety procedures such as Safe Work Method Statements. Make a deliberate effort to gain a full understanding and working knowledge of the Company’s WHS$R and Environmental Policies and Procedures. Ensure that the appropriate safety equipment is worn on site at all times. Notify management regarding any unsafe or potentially hazardous situations on site. Liaise with the Administration Manager with a view to ensuring that costs associated with WHS&R and Environmental Management are allowed for in each tender. On an ongoing basis, monitor all works against specifications to ensure the continuing quality/accuracy of work performed. Notify the Construction Manager of any defects, mistakes, errors, contamination or variations identified. Respond with urgency to any concerns/problems raised by either the client, Field Supervisor or Foreman. Be prepared to assist other company personnel as required/requested. Be prepared to carry out other duties and responsibilities as required/requested. Become involved in on the job training of others as required. Participate in any other relevant/appropriate training programs as requested by the Company. Stay informed and up to date with current technologies available in the Industry. To ensure that you are successful in this role you will possess/demonstrate: Relevant qualification A minimum of 2 years’ industry experience Familiarity with civil design software – AutoCAD and REVIT Highly effective planning, organising and problem-solving skills combined with an ability to work without supervision are all considered critical. Computer literacy, particularly experience working with spreadsheets is necessary. Strong communication (written and verbal) and people skills. Job Type: Full Time Salary Offered: The role offers a remuneration package ranging from $65,000 – $75,000 p.a. plus superannuation for a 40-hour work week.
