About the Role: The Casual Relief Teacher (CRT) is a qualified, VIT-registered teacher, employed on a casual basis to temporarily cover the absences among the College’s teaching team. The main objective of the role is uninterrupted learning. This requires the smooth running of lessons and maintaining order in classrooms so that curricular continuity is upheld. The CRT can sometimes be given several days’ notice, but often is required to be available at very short notice. We are looking for candidates to join our pool with the following methods; English (all levels including Literature) Mathematics and Science (all levels including Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Psychology) Humanities (History, Politics, Legal Studies, Business Management, Religious Education) Arts & Technology (Visual Arts, Media, Design Technology, Food Technology, Drama, Dance and Music Languages (Italian and Japanese) Physical Education and Health In this role your duties and responsibilities consist of; Actively create classroom atmosphere and tone that matches Santa Maria College culture and policies. Actively teach by providing a safe and stimulating learning environment Actively teach students by delivering the curriculum material provided by the absent teacher. Actively teach students using methods and manner supportive of the Santa Maria College culture Adhere to the VIT Code of Conduct and Code of Ethics Proactively complete the administrative requirements for responsible supervision of students this includes but not limited to Roll Marking, Mandatory Reporting, leaving student notes on SIMON. Respond professionally to the differing learning needs and strengths of all students, including students with special needs. Work collegially with other teachers and respond intelligently and professionally to challenges or crises. To supervise a student/s on yard duty if deemed necessary. To accompany a student/s on excursions or at events if necessary. To aide in helping ALL students who need extensions re academic, social, or emotional development. Be able to work in all settings and in all responsibilities for the supervision and teaching of students. This includes non-classroom settings in maintaining neatness in school spaces, assisting with first aid when required or ensuring students are conforming with college protocols. About you Available at short notice Relevant Teaching Qualification Current Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) registration Demonstrated ability to establish positive and effective working relationships with staff and students Demonstrate professional behaviours when engaging with children Strong organisational and time management skills Uphold confidentiality and discretion Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills Strong understanding of the developmental needs of adolescents and emerging young adults. Proficient in the use of ICT for communication and record keeping. First Aid (desirable) Demonstrated understanding of Child Safety and Health & Safety requirements Maintain a positive environment which is respectful of all present and fosters student learning and motivation.
