Iconic projects Tier 1 Contractor Career development opportunities The Opportunity We are seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to join our Western Australia team reporting directly to the Project Director. This role principally involves supporting current projects, with primary responsibility for the development and implementation of strategies for the resolution of disputes. The role will entail regular interaction with regional management, internal stakeholders (executive team, Commercial Managers, Project Director, parent company) and external stakeholders (government clients, financiers, joint venture partners, suppliers, and subcontractors). While the focus will be predominantly on back-end legal work, there will be opportunities to develop front-end skills and gain exposure to corporate work. This is a rare opportunity for a contentious lawyer to join us and grow with our business. Key Responsibilities: Provide legal advice and support services to all business functions across Western Australian operations, with a focus on contentious advisory work, principally the development of claims resolution strategies, negotiating settlements and managing external counsel for contested hearings. Handle general contract work, including reviewing, negotiating, drafting, and advising on a variety of agreements, including joint ventures, head contracts, and supply agreements. Offer contract administration support, advising on variations, EOT claims, and disputes related to head and subcontracts. Deliver project support by providing ad hoc advice on contract interpretation, risk management, and participating in meetings as a legal representative. Manage practice operations by leading internal training programs, coordinating activity reports, sourcing external legal advice, and contributing to knowledge management and corporate governance development. Required Skills and Competencies Demonstrated expertise in contentious matters, ideally involving construction, engineering, and infrastructure projects. Holding a current Australian practicing certificate. Highly developed abilities to communicate with all levels of an organisation in a complex, ever-changing environment. Must be prepared to travel to projects around Perth on a regular basis, and occasionally to regional WA and interstate. Qualifications in finance, business or related fields will be highly regarded.
