About us As a department our purpose is to help the community to prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from the impact of fire and emergency events. Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) is the primary provider of fire, rescue and emergency management programs and services throughout Queensland. The department encompasses the Fire and Rescue Service, disaster management services, the Rural Fire Service and the State Emergency Service, and also supports other volunteer groups providing emergency response to Queenslanders. Purpose of role Business Systems contributes to the development and management of technological solutions and initiatives that help solve Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and business problems and governance for ICT projects, programs and strategies. The team provides system management and oversight of the various systems used to support the QFES frontline service delivery. The team contributes to the formulation of strategy and policy solutions for ICT delivery and works closely with stakeholders and partners to ensure the provision of fit for purpose solutions. Reporting to the Manager [Systems], you will be a key member of the team, responsible for overseeing the development, performance, integrity, maintenance and security measures for replication of data from QFES core systems to a centralised corporate location to enable QFES analytics reporting. You will monitor and manage account creations for authorised access to databases, and develop and implement strategies for data backup, disaster recovery to ensure data availability in the event of system failures or data corruption, and to minimise disruptions and achieve maximum efficiency to business operations. Key requirements Highly desirable requirements Proven work experience as a Data Base Administrator, including knowledge of Cloud Infrastructure. Strong knowledge of database management systems, such as Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, Extracting, Transforming and Loading (ETL) and MySQL. Proficiency in writing complex SQL queries and optimising database performance. Your key accountabilities Your part in the ongoing success of our department, in supporting frontline services will see you responsible for a variety of work, including, but not limited to: Implement and maintain smooth operation and physical design of databases, monitoring performance and conducting regular reviews to optimise queries for maximum efficiency and meet users' requirements. Manage and optimise databases to ensure the availability and reliability of critical organisational actual and future ETL processes to ensure optimisation and best practices. Review database design and integration of systems to anticipate future storage and performance needs and make recommendations regarding enhancements and/or improvements to support sustainability of the systems. Provide technical support to users, troubleshooting user-reported issues, and conducting training sessions to educate users on database usage best practices and troubleshooting techniques. Identify security vulnerabilities and implement measures to safeguard the database against unauthorised access, data breaches, and other security threats. Resolve challenges related to integrating the database with other systems, applications, or third-party services, including data mapping, transformation, and synchronisation. Implement data security procedures, and best practices to protect sensitive information, and generate regular reports on performance, usage, and security compliance for senior management and stakeholders. Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as database backups, index rebuilding, and statistics gathering to ensure data reliability and minimise downtime to meet functional and organisational requirements.
