Senior Electrical Engineer — Fortitude Valley, Brisbane

Queensland Rail has fixed term opportunity to February 2026 for a Senior Electrical Engineer within our Rollingstock Project Engineering team. The team primarily provide technical assurance on projects being completed by external providers, primarily within design modifications of our existing rail fleet, to ensure when modifications are completed, they are reviewed, implemented, and tested to ensure modifications meet Queensland Rail’s safety and technical standards. As a Senior Electrical Engineer within this team, you can expect a mix of tasks including: Provide technical coordination and advice, review design documentation, seek out responses from subject matter experts, and provide responses to technical tasks. Take lead over the various scopes of work to ensure that all the electrical engineering requirements are captured. Perform testing and analysis and acceptance testing after modifications are completed and assist contractors with commissioning activities. Conduct quality audits in accordance with current standards. Liaise with the rollingstock engineering team, trade staff, inventory, suppliers, and other Queensland Rail staff to identify and resolve rollingstock issues. Develop scopes of work, instructions and procedures, overhaul schedules and other documentation in relation to rollingstock modifications, maintenance, and associated equipment. Manage and monitor projects for safety, reliability, and cost improvement in relation to rollingstock modifications, upgrades, repairs, and general maintenance. This role is predominately based in a Brisbane CBD location, with some travel to site requirements on an irregular basis. You will bring: Strong electrical engineering technical knowledge within design and modification/repair of rollingstock or similar heavy vehicle/machinery. High level of skill in the development of concept briefs and design illustrations. Experience within an electrical engineering role, performing investigations, testing, problem solving, trial modifications and report writing. Strong interpersonal skills, ability to clearly communicate both in written and oral forms and translate technical terms to non-technical audiences. Ability to work across multiple stakeholders who are responsible for differing stages of rollingstock modification projects. Qualifications: Candidates at the time of application will be able to demonstrate that they currently hold the below qualifications and meet the employment eligibility requirements: Hold a Professional Bachelor of Engineering Electrical qualification which is recognised under the Washington Accord or demonstrated by ‘an entry to practice competently’ having been awarded to you by Engineers Australia and accepted by Queensland Rail. Due to the timeline and temporary nature of the requirements for this role, we will only be able to accept candidates with unrestricted eligibility to the be employed within Australia.
