About The Role The Sourcing Platforms team within an esteemed Federal Government Agency is looking for a talented User Experience Designer. The team manages the BuyICT platform, a critical tool that facilitates Whole of Government digital procurement by hosting various marketplaces, panels, and single-seller arrangements. As a User Experience Designer, you will play a key role in enhancing the functionality and usability of the BuyICT platform. They are seeking someone with a passion for creating engaging and seamless user experiences, ensuring that every interaction is intuitive and adds value to users. Key responsibilities: Collaborating with user researchers and a Product Manager to deeply understand user needs, behaviours, and challenges. Working in tandem with the product manager to grasp requirements and business limitations, while aligning design solutions with strategic goals. Work with other designers to conceptualise and prototype solutions that effectively address core user needs and issues, fostering a collaborative design environment. Iterating designs based on stakeholder feedback and usability testing so that they are ready for development. Ensuring all designs are accessible and adhere to user-centred design principles and accessibility standards. Working closely with developers to understand technical limitations and create detailed interaction specifications for implementation. Maintaining a comprehensive perspective of the user experience to ensure consistency and coherence across the platform. Maintain internal design systems to ensure long-term consistency across the platform. Essential Criteria User-Centered Design Proficiency: Candidates must demonstrate a strong ability to create and iterate intuitive and engaging user experiences that meet the needs and expectations of users, all while complying with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. Collaborative teamwork: It's crucial for candidates to have the ability to work effectively within a team environment, engaging with user researchers, developers, a product manager, and stakeholders to align design solutions with business objectives. Technical and Adaptive Design Proficiency: A deep understanding of design tools is essential (for example Figma and Miro), along with the flexibility to produce designs at varying fidelity levels, tailored to the specific requirements of the project's context and objectives. Desirable criteria Familiarity with the fundamentals of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript is advantageous, as it enables a more holistic approach to user experience design understanding of technical constraints and closer collaboration with development teams. Agile Development Experience: Familiarity with Agile methodologies is beneficial, fostering a flexible and responsive design approach that complements fast-paced development environments.
