The key duties of the position include The Role This is a unique opportunity to apply your systems engineering (SE) experience to the Collins Class Submarine (CCSM) Life of Type Extension (LOTE) Project, a project of national significance. The position will suit someone who thrives in a leadership role. As the LOTE EL1 Systems Engineering Manager (SEM) you are accountable under broad direction to lead a small team to manage the LOTE SE Program. You will have experience and comprehensive knowledge of systems engineering (SE) in relation to: Requirements definition and management Architecture definition Trade-studies Technical reviews Interface definition and management Integration Verification and Validation SE standards and documentation. The LOTE EL1 SEM is responsible for leading and managing the review of Industry technical documentation as part of the Commonwealth's assurance activities and will have extensive stakeholder engagement and will be required to provide subject matter expertise advice and guidance to both the Commonwealth and Industry on SE. Safety and Certification Manager. This is a unique opportunity to apply your safety and certification experience to the Collins Class Submarine (CCSM) Life of Type Extension (LOTE) Project. This project is part of a broader obsolescence program that extends existing Defence capability. The position will suit someone who thrives in a collaborative assurance role with experience in both new acquisitions and brownfields applications. You will oversee Safety Engineering and Certification Compliance as part of Defence Assurance including: Review of System Safety and Certification detailed design deliverables in support of Project delivery, ensuring that safety hazards have been effectively managed so far as reasonably practical. Investigate, analyse, review and report on the system safety engineering and certification program and develop and implement recommendations and advice to address issues. Engage with suppliers and Defence stakeholders in support of System Safety and Certification Programs Ensure the effectiveness of Defence inputs to system safety and certification engineering. Facilitate development and integration of the supplier-delivered Project Safety Case Report (including all supporting evidence). Chair the System Safety Working Group to effectively manage issues raised from system safety and certification. About our Team The Collins Submarine Program within the National Shipbuilding Sustainment Group (NSSG) is responsible for the maintenance and programmed upgrade of Australia's Collins Class submarines. The Program works in partnership with the Royal Australian Navy and Industry to deliver the strategic submarine capability to the nation. If you require further information, please email build.the.futuredefence.gov.au Our Ideal Candidate System Engineering Manager Will have extensive experience and an in-depth understanding of systems engineering on complex systems. Experience in the application of systems engineering standards on complex systems such as ISO 15288, EIA 632, ISO 26702 (IEEE 1220), and ISO 12207 etc. Experience in the development of marine systems and/or submarine systems. Will have highly developed written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders in relation to complex issues, along with the ability to tailor communication style and language according to audience's level of knowledge, skill and experience. Exercise a considerable degree of independence and be capable of performing a leadership role. Have a demonstrated ability to plan and schedule activities with a view to maintaining and meeting deadlines. Will have demonstrated strength in attention to detail. Will have previous experience managing Defence acquisition systems engineering programs or aspects of systems engineering programs.
