Senior Engineer — Brisbane, Brisbane Region

In the role of Senior Engineer (Estimating and Risk), you will provide high level advice and guidance to project managers and project planning staff in the department and the cost estimating community in TMR and the industry. You will also assist the delivery staff in preparing cost estimates for roads and rail infrastructure projects in accordance with TMR requirements and industry best practice standards. You will also review cost estimates developed by the external consultants for the TMR projects and provide comments. This position will provide you an opportunity to work within a technical team and build a skillset in the cost estimating and project risk evaluation domains. You will also actively engage to embed the industry best practice cost estimating standards across the department by updating technical documents such as TMR Project Cost Estimating Manual (PCEM) and Project Risk management and Contingency Development Process Manual. You will be required to analyse and review project estimates developed for roads and rail projects from the early project phases through to finalisation phases ensuring project estimates reflect the project intent, scope of works, budget and the TMR standards to comply with the Project Cost Estimating Manual. An in depth understanding of industry best practice estimating systems, processes and tools is key to this role. Desirable:- Demonstrated skills and experience in planning, development and/or delivery of road transport infrastructure projects.- Demonstrated experience in the application of TMR recommended cost estimating software (Expert Estimation and SmartCost) and risk evaluation software (Risk).- Knowledge of Project Cost Estimating Manual (PCEM), TMR Main Roads Specifications (MRS), and road engineering technical standards.- Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills to articulate complex problems and solutions to gain commitment from key stakeholders to support ideas or take action.
