Legal Officer — Brisbane, Brisbane Region

In this role the Legal Officer will: - Provide authoritative legal advice (both written and oral) in relation to Parole Board activities and processes, recommended outcomes and decisions, emerging or current case law, legislative governance and risk mitigation. This advice may be in relation to contentious issues, often of a complex and sensitive nature, which may be the subject of litigation, and which are under consideration by the Minister, Commissioner, Executive Team and other senior QCS officers. - Prepare timely advice, reports, correspondence and briefing notes on legal issues including statutory interpretation in relation to Parole Board activities and the law reform initiatives of external agencies. - Liaise with Crown Law and other legal service providers to ensure a consistent, coordinated and effective approach to the provision of legal services involving the Board. - Undertake legal research, analysis, review and evaluation to ensure that the Board's activities, including its operations and procedures, satisfy public sector standards for accountability and effectiveness; - Appear in the Supreme Court at directions hearings. Qualifications, professional registration, conditions and other requirements - Admission as a solicitor or barrister of the Supreme Court of Queensland. - A current Queensland Practising Certificate is preferred but not essential for this role.
