As a Power Systems Engineer, you will be integral to the planning, design, and operation of the electrical distribution network. You will work collaboratively with a team of engineers and technical experts to ensure the reliability and efficiency of the power system infrastructure. Key Responsibilities: Conduct power system analysis, including load flow studies, short circuit analysis, and protection coordination studies, to ensure the safe and reliable operation of the distribution network. Develop and implement network planning strategies to accommodate growth, renewable energy integration, and emerging technologies. Review and approve network connection applications, ensuring compliance with technical standards and regulatory requirements. Provide technical support and guidance to internal stakeholders, including operations, planning, and asset management teams. Collaborate with external stakeholders, including electricity retailers, renewable energy developers, and government agencies, to facilitate network connections and resolve technical issues. Participate in the design and specification of network infrastructure projects, including substation upgrades, feeder reinforcements, and asset replacements. Perform system modeling and simulation using industry-standard software tools, such as PSS/E, CYME, or DIgSILENT, to assess network performance and optimize operation. Investigate and analyze network disturbances, equipment failures, and customer complaints, recommending corrective actions and system improvements. Conduct periodic reviews of network performance metrics, identifying trends and areas for improvement in system reliability and resilience. Support the development and implementation of asset management strategies, including condition monitoring, risk assessment, and life cycle planning for network assets. Stay abreast of industry developments, regulatory changes, and emerging technologies in power systems engineering, providing strategic advice to management. Participate in industry working groups and technical forums to share knowledge and best practices with peers and contribute to industry standards development. Prepare technical reports, presentations, and proposals for internal and external audiences, communicating complex engineering concepts in a clear and concise manner. Mentor junior engineers and graduates, fostering their professional development and technical expertise within the organization. Uphold a commitment to safety, quality, and environmental stewardship in all aspects of work. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field. Master's degree preferred. Professional engineering license or eligibility for registration with Engineers Australia. 5 years of experience in power systems engineering, preferably in the electricity distribution sector. Proficiency in power system analysis software such as PSS/E, CYME, or DIgSILENT. Strong understanding of electrical distribution networks, including substation design, protection systems, and network planning principles. Knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry standards governing electricity distribution in Australia. Excellent analytical skills and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on data-driven decision-making. Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams and engage with stakeholders at all levels. Demonstrated project management experience, including the ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage competing priorities.
