Mackillop Family Services provides a Intensive Therapeutic Transitional Care home on acreage at Royalla – just 15 minutes from Tuggeranong, or 20 minutes from Queanbeyan . We support up to four young people with complex needs in out of home care aged between 12-17, in our beautiful country home. Characteristics of our young people may include trauma histories, mental health concerns, or emotional or behavioural issues that may present a risk to themselves or others. Our role is to learn to understand them, to help them settle into a routine, meet immediate healthcare and safety needs, and to undertake assessments needed for transitioning to a sustainable future home – whether back with family, in a shared living arrangement, or in a supported living environment with the end goal of acquiring the skills to live independently. About the Role: As a Therapeutic Youth Worker, you'll collaborate with a colleague to provide high-quality support to a maximum of four young individuals, utilising a therapeutic, trauma-informed approach. The program involves short-term assessment and support, typically lasting three months, with opportunities for activities like equine therapy. The role is dynamic, requiring active engagement, and includes relationship building, therapeutic youth work, and participation in team analysis and decision-making. Our Leadership Team, include a Therapeutic Specialist, Education Specialist, House Manager, Case Worker, Senior Youth worker, and a team of specialist youth workers, aims to deliver quality therapeutic care. The position is offered on a casual basis, with varied shifts including morning, afternoon, active (awake) nights, and weekends, and outstanding Casuals may be considered for permanent roles. We offer competitive compensation ranging from $45 to $48.25 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience. Key Selection Criteria: To excel in this role, you should possess the following: A relevant qualification and experience: The minimum qualifications are Diploma level in Community Services (or related), however we will consider experience with lesser qualifications if you are prepared to undertake further training to reach Diploma level Experience in youth work, mental health work, disability work or similar complex care arrangements Demonstrated ability to commit to working well as part of the team For a comprehensive list of Key Selection Criteria, please refer to the Position Description.
