Our client is seeking a talented and experienced Legal Counsel to join their team in Melbourne. This role offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of law and renewable energy, supporting the development, operation, and maintenance of local energy hubs and batteries across Australia. As Legal Counsel, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in providing legal advice and support to enable the successful delivery of renewable energy projects and initiatives. Key Responsibilities: Provide legal advice and support on the development, acquisition, and divestment of renewable energy assets, including local energy hubs/batteries. Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of legal agreements and contracts related to renewable energy projects, such as power purchase agreements, construction contracts, and land leases. Conduct due diligence and risk assessments for renewable energy projects, identifying legal and regulatory issues and recommending appropriate mitigation strategies. Liaise with internal stakeholders, external legal advisors, government agencies, and industry bodies to ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards. Advise on regulatory frameworks and policies impacting renewable energy development, including environmental approvals, grid connections, and renewable energy certificates. Manage legal disputes and litigation related to renewable energy projects, working closely with external counsel and internal teams to achieve favourable outcomes. Stay abreast of legal and regulatory developments in the renewable energy sector, providing insights and recommendations to support strategic decision-making. Collaborate with project teams and business units to identify opportunities for innovation and improvement in legal processes and practices. Support corporate governance and compliance initiatives, including company secretarial duties and regulatory reporting requirements. Provide training and guidance to internal stakeholders on legal matters related to renewable energy projects and initiatives. Participate in cross-functional project teams and working groups to drive continuous improvement and best practice sharing. Represent our client in industry forums, conferences, and working groups to promote thought leadership and share insights on legal issues impacting renewable energy. Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Law from a recognized institution; admission to practice law in Australia. Minimum of 8 years of post-admission experience as a lawyer, with a focus on energy, resources, or infrastructure law. Solid understanding of the legal and regulatory framework governing the renewable energy sector in Australia. Experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex commercial agreements and contracts. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess legal risks and provide pragmatic solutions. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders. Proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Commitment to excellence, integrity, and professionalism in all aspects of legal practice.
