Senior Legal Counsel - Restructuring and Credit Structuring — The Rocks, Sydney

See yourself in our team The Legal and Group Secretariat team provides expert advice and assistance to the Group to achieve its strategic goals and priorities, including by identifying and appropriately managing legal and regulatory risks. GCS Legal partners with Group Credit Structuring team (GCS) and Business Units to assist them in attaining their strategic goals by ensuring legal risks are appropriately recognised and managed. Do work that matters The purpose of this role is to deliver high value strategic legal services to the GCS team in managing customers whose financial affairs are troubled or impaired and delivering balanced solutions reflecting customer and community expectations. You will work directly with GCS teams in business banking, regional and agri banking, corporate and institutional / large corporate, with Business Units and with other stakeholders to support customers who are experiencing financial difficulties. Reporting to the Managing Counsel GCS Legal, your role will include reviewing finance documents, providing advice on insolvency and regulatory matters, advising on the implementation of insolvency or restructuring process, working with and managing engagement with external advisers and identifying and managing regulatory and commercial risks. You will maintain a deep understanding of the Group's legal and regulatory risk appetite and aligning your role to support the successful implementation of the Group's strategic priorities and goals. We're interested in hearing from people who have 7 years relevant post admission experience. Tertiary qualifications in Law and admitted to practice in NSW or another State or Territory. Strong awareness of the legal and regulatory environment affecting corporate lending, insolvency and restructuring. Demonstrated transactional experience including complex finance structures and asset classes, secondary debt trading and insolvency processes and implementation of restructuring and insolvency structures. Sound judgment that will enable you to appropriately balance legal, commercial and customer considerations. Excellent legal technical and communication skills including the ability to quickly grasp, negotiate and resolve issues across a range of institutional lending, financial regulatory and transactional matters.
