Graphic Designer and Senior Designer / Production Manager, Communications Branch — Barton, South Canberra

The Communications branch supports the Prime Minister, our portfolio ministers and our department and portfolio agencies with strategic communications advice and support. We believe in making a difference by making sure the Australian public is informed and engaged about the Australian Government programs and policies that affect them. We put people at the heart of our communications and are driven to use the most effective and innovative ways to communicate but we listen as much as we speak. The Digital Communications team is on the front line of the department's digital first approach, delivering strategic digital solutions for the department's communication priorities. The team advises on and builds digital solutions for internal and external audiences, and manages our digital channels such as web and intranet. We are looking for an APS 6 Graphic Designer and an EL1 Senior Graphic Designer and Production Manager. As the APS 6 Graphic Designer, you will produce high quality work that delivers on the department's mission to improve the lives of all Australians. You will be responsible for: providing high-quality creative design solutions across publications, templates, merchandise, infographics and other graphics for printed and digital distribution providing advice on Australian Government branding, departmental brand hierarchy and print requirements presenting design concepts to stakeholders, including senior staff mentoring junior design staff. As the EL 1 Senior Graphic Designer and Production Manager, you will think holistically about user-centric design across all mediums. You will lead a small team responsible for design across the department's digital and print products. In this role, you will be responsible for: Production studio management: Manage graphic content planning and implementation across a range of digital and social channels. Manage the departmental brand and sub-brands, and provide advice on Australian Government branding requirements. Stakeholder engagement: Have a strong client focus, developing networks both internally and externally and provide high-level strategic advice to clients, the Senior Executive and internal and external stakeholders as required to ensure priorities are met, positive customer outcomes are achieved and to resolve conflict in escalated cases. Process, development and strategy: Contribute to the management and development of the branch and its role as a valuable and effective partner in the delivery of the government's priorities. This includes, identifying and actively managing risks within day-to-day work, and keeping senior management informed of sensitive issues and concerns as required. Our ideal candidates will be able to manage projects from ideation to production, while working across competing priorities and different policy areas. Candidates must have: a relevant design degree or have extensive graphic design experience (7 or more years for the EL 1 role and 5 or more years for the APS 6 role) exceptional graphic design skills across multiple platforms - online and print extensive experience using Adobe graphic design and desktop publishing software (including InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Adobe Acrobat) and any other industry standard software a high-level understanding of accessibility principles and the Australian Government's Digital Service Standard and how they relate to graphic and web design excellent communication, organisational skills and attention to detail. the ability to perform quickly and effectively under pressure to meet tight deadlines. experience managing complex customer relationships, including the management of customer expectations. after-hours availability as required to deal with production issues and priorities. Skills in photography and videography production desired but not essential. In addition, for the EL 1 role, you will have experience with staff management and production/studio management.
