Our client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Legal Counsel specialising in Projects & Energy Transition to join their dynamic Legal team. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in providing legal support and guidance on a wide range of projects and initiatives related to energy transition and sustainability. Key Responsibilities: Advise on legal and regulatory requirements related to energy projects, including compliance with environmental laws, planning regulations, and permitting processes. Stay abreast of emerging legal and policy developments in the energy sector, including changes in government regulations, industry standards, and market trends. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to assess the legal and commercial viability of potential energy projects, including risk assessments and due diligence reviews. Participate in project negotiations, including structuring transactions, drafting term sheets, and managing deal execution processes. Provide training and guidance to internal stakeholders on legal issues relevant to energy projects, including risk management strategies and contract interpretation. Support the development and implementation of sustainability initiatives, including carbon reduction targets, renewable energy procurement strategies, and ESG reporting obligations. Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and industry best practices. Manage external legal counsel and advisors engaged to support energy projects, including overseeing legal budgets, evaluating performance, and ensuring alignment with company objectives. Represent our client in negotiations with government agencies, regulatory bodies, and other external stakeholders involved in energy project approvals and permitting processes. Monitor and assess legal and reputational risks associated with energy projects, including social license considerations, community engagement strategies, and stakeholder relations. Contribute to the continuous improvement of legal processes, templates, and systems to enhance efficiency, effectiveness, and scalability of legal support for energy projects. Act as a trusted advisor to senior management and key decision-makers, providing strategic legal advice and support to advance our client's business objectives in the projects and energy transition space. Qualifications and Experience: Current Practicing Certificate. Minimum of 4 years of post-qualification experience (PQE) in a reputable law firm or in-house legal department, with a focus on projects, energy, or infrastructure. Strong background in energy law, with experience in renewable energy projects, energy transition initiatives, and sustainability matters preferred. Demonstrated expertise in drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements in the energy sector. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with internal and external stakeholders at all levels. Proven ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and deliver high-quality legal advice within tight deadlines.
