Our client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join their dynamic team in Australia. As the Senior Legal Counsel - Major Projects (Front-End), you will play a key role in supporting major projects across the region. Key Responsibilities: Lead and manage legal aspects of major projects from inception to completion, ensuring alignment with business objectives and legal requirements. Advise senior management and project teams on legal risks, opportunities, and strategies to optimise project outcomes. Develop and implement standardised contract templates, processes, and best practices to streamline project execution and minimise legal exposure. Collaborate with external legal counsel and other third-party advisors as needed to support project activities and resolve complex legal issues. Provide guidance and training to internal stakeholders on legal matters related to major projects, promoting awareness and compliance across the organisation. Participate in project negotiations and meetings with clients, contractors, and other key stakeholders, representing our client's legal interests effectively. Stay updated on industry trends, legal developments, and market conditions relevant to major projects, contributing insights and recommendations to inform strategic decision-making. Conduct legal research and analysis on various topics, including regulatory requirements, project finance structures, and dispute resolution mechanisms. Manage legal documentation and record-keeping for major projects, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and confidentiality. Review and assess project-related insurance arrangements, identifying potential coverage gaps and recommending appropriate risk mitigation measures. Support the resolution of project-related disputes, claims, and legal proceedings, including mediation, arbitration, and litigation via external counsel if necessary. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and address legal issues arising during project implementation, including environmental, health, and safety compliance. Monitor and evaluate contractual performance and compliance throughout project lifecycles, identifying deviations and recommending corrective actions as needed. Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, industry associations, and community organisations, to support project development and implementation. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the legal department and across the organisation, sharing knowledge and best practices to enhance efficiency and effectiveness. Requirements: Qualified lawyer with a minimum of 8 years of PQE, preferably with experience in major projects, infrastructure, or energy sectors. Strong background in front-end project development and transactional work, including drafting and negotiating complex commercial contracts. Excellent knowledge of Australian contract law, construction law, and relevant regulatory frameworks. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
