Your role: As the Principal Lawyer, you will: Provide independent, professional, authoritative legal advice and services to all internal clients of DoE across a range of complex legal issues. Responsibilities include: Provide legal advice to departmental officers on a range of complex legal issues in education and child care to assist them with compliance with relevant legislation, common law and whole of government policy including: Public and administrative law (including human rights; anti-discrimination;prosecutions; delegations; decision making; natural justice); Employment, workplace and industrial relations; crime and corruption; workplace investigations; workplace health and safety; Litigation management in courts, tribunals, royal commissions, commissions of inquiry, coronial inquests including pre proceedings processes Draft and settle complex legal documents including decisions required under an enactment, briefing notes and submissions. Assist in the provision of legal advisory services to a diverse range of departmental clients in schools, regions and central office. Review and analyse major policy papers, briefings, reports, discussion papers and submissions including Cabinet submissions. Provide guidance to other members of the Legal Services in the conduct of legal matters if required by the Director or Executive Director, Legal Services Engage in training of officers in Legal Services and other branches, including to share expertise and to update developments in law to build capability Please refer to the attached role description for any mandatory requirements for this position.
