Our team The Digital Science Platforms Section within the Enterprise Data and Digital branch delivers specialist geospatial information and software services that will enable Geoscience Australia to create and deliver its digital science data according to current best practice. The section consults with internal and external research, government, and industry partners, to establish collaborative frameworks, products and scientific system architectures and models within Geoscience Australia and across broader national and international communities of practice. The section innovates, builds, and maintains tools, systems, processes, and governance that enable digital data product creation, management, and delivery. Our team provides enterprise-wide geospatial platforms and services for internal and external clients (both propriety and open source). The team provide advice on the current geospatial landscape and provides direction of geospatial products into the future. The team are also responsible for the development, management, and implementation of cloud standards in collaboration with business owners across the organisation. The key duties of the position include The GIS Systems Administrator is responsible for managing and maintaining our current enterprise GIS environments and services to support the needs of Geoscience Australia and its stakeholders. This involves managing the support and administration of GIS platforms, services, and products, and curating and managing daily support and management needs. The role requires a unique blend of technical expertise in managing spatial systems, optimising functionality and performance of technology. In this role you will: Oversee and perform daily routine activities to support the enterprise GIS environment, including environment health checks, support users or teams with geospatial systems and solutions. Ensure availability, reliability, and performance of ArcGIS Enterprise, FME and other spatial products and services (XTools, QGIS, ENVI) Lead projects to improve capabilities related to GIS administration. Contribute to the agency's geospatial capability strategies and capability improvement planning. Play a lead role in maintaining and updating the architecture/design for GIS systems/platforms. Assist the Spatial Platforms Manager to provide leadership, direction, and management for GIS capabilities for the agency. Administer ArcGIS Enterprise, including regular maintenance, software upgrades when relevant and coordinate stakeholders to schedule and execute with minimal disruption to users. Administer proactive user access and licence management to GIS systems ensuring appropriate product selection, permissions and security measures are in place. Provide specialist expertise and guide the direction of current and future technology and software for GIS and supporting technologies. Maintain comprehensive documentation, including configuration settings, procedures, and troubleshooting guides. To be successful in the role you will: Demonstrated experience and competency with ESRI ArcGIS pro, ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Enterprise technology as well as open-source products. A strong understanding of GIS principles, spatial data management, and relevant software tools is essential and should be proficient in configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting GIS systems. The ability to analyse complex issues, identify root causes, and develop innovative solutions. Provide technical expertise and support to ensure the reliability, security and scalability of GIS platforms and cloud infrastructure. Required skills, knowledge, experience and/or qualifications Tertiary or professional qualifications in digital, ICT, or geospatial technologies, or equivalent experience. Experience in ESRI technologies which include ArcGIS enterprise, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Pro etc and other associated spatial products and services (FME, XTool, QGIS, ENVI) and user workflows. Understanding of spatial databases and data management techniques (ArcGIS Server, Geoserver, Oracle based DBs or schemas) Administer user access to GIS systems ensuring appropriate product selection, licencing, permissions, and security measures are in place. Experience in Python scripting programming and execution. Desirable: Experience with Agile methodologies (e.g. Jira) and/or experience with ITIL or other IT change management methodologies.
