Classroom Music Teacher & Head of Bands — St Kilda Road Central, Melbourne

Wesley College Melbourne, a school of the Uniting Church, established in 1866, is one of Australia's leading and most respected co-educational independent schools. With an enrolment of 3,400 students from ECLC to Year 12, it comprises three metropolitan campuses in Melbourne, at St Kilda Road, Glen Waverley and Elsternwick, outdoor education sites at Chum Creek, Mallana and Lochend, and a Year 9 residential campus at Clunes. Applications are invited for a suitably qualified, passionate, and highly competent Classroom Music Teacher and Head of Bands for this full time, ongoing position, and is available for immediate commencement. This position is based at our St Kilda Road Campus. Responsible for the development and coordination of the band program, the successful applicant will be a highly skilled, caring, and enthusiastic teacher/conductor who has experience leading a team of ensemble directors and students from Years 5-12. They will also have: A minimum Bachelor of Music/Education degree recognised by VIT. Current VIT registration Expertise in playing a woodwind instrument and/or one or more of the following: percussion, strings, piano, brass. Extensive experience in conducting and developing a sequential program for both cocurricular and curriculum programs that caters to students from beginner to advanced levels. Significant experience in motivating and leading instrumental music staff. Well-developed administrative and organisational skills. Proven ability to work effectively in a diverse and vibrant team. Proven ability to deliver effective Music curriculum through 21st century teaching pedagogies and not excluding contemporary instruments such as electric bass, drums, keyboard, electric guitar, and voice. Proven ability to communicate effectively and an ability to develop strong relationships in all parts of the community. The successful applicants teaching load will include teaching curriculum classroom music, conducting cocurricular ensemble groups and potentially some musical theatre music direction. Experience in delivering the International Baccalaureate (IB) PYP, MYP, and DP program and or VCE VET Music Industry (Sound Production) in the classroom is highly desirable but not essential.
