Principal Advisor, Architecture and Urban Design — Brisbane, Brisbane Region

The Office of the Queensland Government Architect (OQGA) is responsible for providing leadership and strategic advice to government in relation to built environment, urban design and heritage issues. This advice will assist in improving the quality of the built environment and ensuring Queensland's unique architectural heritage is respected and enhanced. Other responsibilities include encouraging more innovative design of public buildings, ensuring quality is a factor of public projects and encouraging development of regional design. The position of Principal Advisor - Architecture and Urban Design will provide strategic support to the Queensland Government Architect (QGA). Other activities will include providing authoritative advice, researching various topics as required and providing feedback on your findings. Matters to be considered will include the design of the built environment and modified natural environment, policy development and review and strategic implications of major initiatives by government departments and agencies.What you will be doing- Providing support, managing and delivering design advisory services and deliverables to the department related to the delivery of the Queensland Housing Plan.- Undertaking high level research and analysis to support the role of the QGA.- Undertaking strategic, sensitive and important projects which will require the establishment and maintenance of strong relationships with tertiary institutions and design organisations.- Assisting the QGA by contributing to advocacy and major policy projects and analyses relating to the development, co-ordination and implementation of government policy regarding the built environment.- Planning and undertaking sensitive and confidential investigations from enquiries from the public or other government agencies.- Undertaking design review of a broad range of infrastructure projects as well as government and private sector projects and communicate outcomes with clarity and sensitivity.- Developing and maintaining effective relationships with senior stakeholders, providing advice and representing the QGA on inter-agency committees and task forces.- Monitor and manage the website and social media platforms for the OQGA.- Representing the Department and the QGA on national and intergovernmental bodies and committees.- Preparing and delivering information and advice to the Minister, Minister's office, Director-General, Assistant Director-General, industry and other stakeholders in written and verbal form that is concise, coherent and targeted to the audience.- Assist in managing the operations of the OQGA, including business planning, performance measurement and the implementation of management standards and policies.- Promoting and maintaining a high performance and continuous improvementoriented culture consistent with the department's values.
