Our Directorates includes Thomas Embling Hospital, Prison Operations and our Community Directorate with highly skilled disciplines including Nursing, Lived Experience, Occupational Therapy, Psychiatry, Psychologists and Social Work. We have an outstanding L&D and discipline Educator co-hort that continually upskill our already skilled and supportive team. Forensicare provides specialist forensic mental health services across 12 of Victoria's 14 prisons, with expansion underway to include Western Plains in the Barwon region. Located at Port Phillip Prison in Truganina, VIC. St Paul's Unit is a 30-bed psychosocial rehabilitation service that provides specialist, voluntary mental health care, treatment and therapeutic programs to prisoners with a mental health diagnosis. Participants selected for the program require psychosocial rehabilitation to minimise the risk of relapse and enhance their social functioning in preparation for returning to the general prison environment or release to the community. About the Role: The Senior Social Worker manages a caseload of complex consumer needs in the context of boundaries set by professional standards, legislative requirements, organisational policies, practices and directives. The Senior Social Worker is expected to take the lead on civil order applications for Guardianship and Administration and lead the planning application and review processes for NDIS participants. The Senior Social Worker is responsible for developing and planning social work services to achieve and maintain a high standard of consumer care. As a senior, the position provides advice and collaborates with key stakeholders and agencies to develop policies and procedures and deliver training and supervision to staff, graduates, and students. The Senior Social Worker will contribute to the development and delivery of therapeutic programs to consumers on the unit as part of the multidisciplinary team (MDT). Duties: Promote consumer-driven recovery, drawing on a range of approaches, including individual counselling and support, family psycho-education, group work, and transitional integration and liaison. Encourage and support consumer and carer participation in mental health recovery planning processes and mental health treatment. Provide high-level consultation and advice to multidisciplinary team members on social work-related issues. Role model and promote effective and collaborative working relationships with MDT and key stakeholders with a particular focus on service integration in transition and discharge planning Undertake family liaison and assessments, examining support structures and the need for psycho- or legal education and referring to specific community-based services. Contribute to developing and delivering individual and group programs within the prison. Understand responsibilities under the MARAM framework to identify, sensitively engage and seek secondary consultation for consumers who may be victims of, or using family violence. About You: Tertiary qualifications in Social Work coupled with eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW). Excellent working knowledge and application of relevant legislation, guidelines and standards of practice in the delivery of care and social work interventions, preferably within a complex environment. Ability to build positive relationships with stakeholders, colleagues and consumers through consultation and collaboration. Well developed assessment skills and ability to plan and implement mental health recovery plans in collaboration with consumers. Ability to work as part of a multi disciplinary team in developing and delivering both individual and group therapeutic programs.
