About the Role BHP's Legal function is responsible for providing strategic legal advice to enable the organisation to achieve its commercial objectives and manage legal risk in compliance with applicable laws and consistent with the BHP Charter. We have an excellent opportunity for an environment lawyer to join BHP's Legal team, as a Legal Counsel reporting to the Head of Legal Coal, Minerals Australia. This is a unique opportunity to utilise your skills and experience with a leading global resources company. This role will provide legal advice and support BHP's Queensland and New South Wales assets to achieve their goals while addressing commercial and legal risks. This is permanent role and based in Brisbane, with occasional travel required to site. In this role you will: Conform with the BHP Charter, Code of Conduct, Our Requirements and relevant statutory obligations. Have an overriding commitment to health and safety, environment responsibility and sustainable development. Provide strategic and commercial legal advice and commercial input on material environmental and planning matters in respect of BHP's assets located in Queensland and NSW. Oversee external legal counsel to ensure appropriate advice is received in an effective and cost sensitive manner. Establish yourself as a trusted adviser with key asset stakeholders. Be accountable for the identification of legal risks that may result in adverse outcomes for the business and advise client groups on workable measures to resolve or mitigate these risks. About You As a successful candidate you will possess the following: You will be a qualified lawyer who is able to practice in Australia and has experience working for a top-tier firm or in-house in a similar role. Resources and energy sector experience will be highly regarded. As a true strategic adviser, you are able to draw on your experience to solve complex problems and achieve business results. Additionally, you will be an excellent communicator (both oral and written) with the ability to negotiate effectively, and to influence stakeholders and build relationships with key stakeholders at all levels. Experience with large and complex projects will be highly regarded.
