About the role: The newly created Chief Legal Officer role at TMR presents an exciting opportunity for a skilled legal professional to lead and transform a multi-functional branch consisting of the legal, prosecutions, right to information, information privacy, and complaints management reporting teams. As a member of the Corporate Leadership team, the Chief Legal Officer will report to the Deputy Director General and will be responsible for strategically leading and coordinating the activities and performance of specialised teams within a new branch. This position requires a candidate who possesses exceptional strategic leadership skills, as well as a deep understanding of the legal landscape and experience driving transformative change programs for future fit services and high performance. In this role you will: develop and implement a vision and purpose for a new branch including the service delivery offering and standards, engagement and governance frameworks; strategically review and implement contemporary practices and systems including digital systems and data analytics; provide functional and technical leadership across a variety of legal areas including commercial, contract, workplace, trade practices, intellectual property, property, litigation, constitutional and administrative law; develop early intervention strategies in complex, sensitive litigious matters; develop legal processes in order to maximise the efficient use of the legal function; provide strategic, independent legal advice to the Executive Leadership Team on high risk, complex and sensitive matters as they impact TMR; and strategically shape and oversee the procurement of external legal services. Skills/Experience: To be considered for this role you will have: approximately 10 years' post -admission experience (PAE) including demonstrated oversight and leadership of a legal function in a General Counsel, Chief Legal Officer, Head of Legal or equivalent role; ideally experience advising government clients or working in the government providing you a demonstrated understanding of the public sector; demonstrated experience in developing and implementing transformational change; an engaging, customer centric approach with key stakeholders and your team to foster effective relationships at an executive and operational level; and a pragmatic, strategic leadership style in order to lead and execute on the delivery of this critical organisational change process.
